Phila, PA & US governments — and foundations like @WilliamPennFdn — spend hundreds of millions to mitigate climate change and flooding.
Why would they turn around and cut down more trees and clear more floodplain?
It doesn’t make sense.
Philadelphia has asked the Pa. Dept of Environmental Protection for a permit to clear at least 38 more acres of the FDR Meadows and cut down hundreds of trees.
🕛Midnight TONIGHT is the deadline for public comment opposing the permit.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Several community and environmental groups rallied outside of City Hall Thursday morning to demand the City Council “ban artificial turf installation on city property including parks and recreation centers.” https://t.co/qeFdcAJ2fz
The difference:
No Philadelphia politicians are showing the courage to stand up to @CouncilmemberKJ the way these Florida Republicans (!) are standing up to Ron DeSantis.
@PhillyMayor Sound familiar?
"Many noted the plans had been drawn up in secret, with no-bid contracts destined for mysteriously pre-chosen developers..." https://t.co/UFzkAhGXqj
Join us at Phila. City Hall on Sept 5 to demand Council:
🛑 ban toxic artificial turf in our parks
🛑 stop destruction & privatization of our green spaces

@6abc Sadly this is only PR.
@PhillyMayor Parker just had 441 trees cut down in FDR Park and fed into a sawmill.
Not baby trees either — up to 80 years old, including 63 heritage trees.
Why? To install toxic artificial turf fields.
