Labour government is giving grants of £300 million to Chinese and Indian companies and refusing a far smaller £200m loan guarantee to H & W arguing that it cannot risk taxpayer money on ‘a company that has been treading water for years ?

@NavyLookout @gregbagwell H&W asked to have its lending guaranteed to enable it refinance in the UK and continue the dynamic progress it's made in the last five years. The only thing unsound is the decision not to support it at no cost to taxpayers.

Who says H&W future business plan is unsound? They hold £700M worth of the contract for FSS for starters.

More broadly H&W is a national strategic asset. Without using foreign yards, there is not enough UK shipyard capacity to build the larger ships in the shipbuilding pipeline - MRSS and Strategic Sealift vessels for starters
