We are a dedicated group of people raising awarenes about the devastating impact of monoculture conifers plantations on the environment and citizens of Ireland.
Another devastating blow to Ireland’s Hen Harrier population. One of the last 3 remaining Hen Harrier nests in North West Cork has been lost to afforestation. It’s appears @agriculture_ie@pippa_hackett and the forestry ind are adamant on driving the Hen Harrier to extinction.
We would be greatful if there was any action or changes on the many points we brough to the meeting with @MHealyRae unfortunatly there hasnt been. Setbacks have changed replanting continues under lines, replanting on peat continues, not invited to contribute to 🌲 mid term review
In Ireland peatlands degraded by plantation forestry in felling license applications are being automatically approved by @agriculture_ie@MHealyRae for replanting with sitka spruce at 80% -90% & even 100% to continue degrading them for another 35 years

Leitrim councillor says forestry firms must be held accountable for road hazards and should have to cover the costs and remove dangerous or potentially dangerous trees- Leitrim Live https://t.co/P4141tq3tK
This taken today in #Leitrim is why the forestry industry has to change and why @MHealyRae@agriculture_ie@coilltenews@_FIIreland have to take action to cut back 🌲 that are impacting on our community infrastructure, services and impacting negatively on our lives.
The @ESBNetworks & @coilltenews move a harvester into a plantation today in West Cavan / #Leitrim to address power outages with lines downed by 🌲 forestry. @coilltenews inventory mapping shows 12 to12.5 m setbacks but in reality setback is 6 to 6.5 each side of the line ❌️🌲
Forestry 🌲 industry is now moving / hauling logs in containers? And causing lots of damage breaking down and blocking our rural roads @leitrimcoco@MHealyRae@agriculture_ie
Damage by a timber lorry in #Leitrim Wednesday evening...roof damaged on elderly couple's home as the phone cables were torn from the house connection, 2 poles broken & 📞 wires left lying on road...driver didn't even stop. ❌️🌲 @MHealyRae@agriculture_ie@LeitrimLive
There is no criteria or assessment of community concerns in the afforestation licensing process by the Forest Service @agriculture_ie minister @MHealyRae ignores such concerns in favour of forestry owners, timber industry lobby & profits/ returns?
https://t.co/sYYVV16H48
Unsuitable and inappropriate plantation and there is no real mechanism for input or influence of @agriculture_ie on the licensing regarding community concerns & social issues. Local people who matter are excluded from the process.

It’s no wonder when the paper of record links a photo of conifer forestry with any story regarding carbon emissions. Irish forestry is a carbon emitter 🤔
This lady & may see the value in the west. They & we don’t believe in the planting with Sitka forestry to the detriment of others. We value people, family, environment & community. Join us & others @SaveLeitrim@SaveKerry
Mainly plantation 🌲 investors backed by grants, premia & tax breaks from @MHealyRae@agriculture_ie that is blocking our young people from accessing land to farm in #Leitrim & the west. We need a proper land use plan not just to be a 🌲sacrifice zone

Planting trees on peatlands leads to more GHG emissions then those trees sequester.
30cm of peat stores up to 327 tonnes of carbon per ha.
Forestry = 145 T Ca per Ha.
It does not make sense to plant trees on peatland as a climate change solution.
@MHealyRae@agriculture_ie
Another taxpayer funded "investment" @agriculture_ie Forest service @MHealyRae up in smoke adding to GHG emissions & particulate pollution. Who will cover the costs? How can insurance companies cover "forestry" now given the windblow & now this? @fbd_ie

It is now clear that Irelands plantation 🌲 plan has nothing to do with climate change or GHG Green mitigation but is all about enriching investors, profits & return on investment to the timber industry & vested interests. Looked after by @MHealyRae https://t.co/da7FpNjSAm
