Lastly, Humanitarian assistance is paramount to the victims’ survival. If they don’t die by the bullets; they will certainly die from hunger and diseases. In either case, the executioners will have reached their goal.

Therefore, we request the immediate enactment of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) by the UN Security Council so that MONUSCO can adequately protect the Banyamulenge who are undergoing a genocide and forced displacement.

If his incapacity is not justified by the continued attacks, then there is lack of political will on his part to confront the problem and stop the genocidal killings and forced displacement.

It has been obvious that despite President, Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo numerous promises to protect Banyamulenge and to restore peace in the high plateaus of South Kivu; he has been incapable of stopping these killings and unable to hold his military accountable.

Today 85% of the Banyamulenge are either refugees in other countries or internally displaced confined to IDPs across south kivu province. More than 70% of their villages have been burned to the ground and all the cows looted under a complacent eye of the government.
