Okay the suspension is null and void. Great. He was at the wrong tent, for no reason, and when asked to leave he didn't, he wanted to provoke an altercation, and brought the knife on purpose, that purpose was to provoke an altercation and stab someone.
Deadly force isn't a justified response to words.

He was suspended, shouldn't have been at the track meet, he wasn't part of that team, he had no reason to be there.
Yes, he should have walked away...but he intentionally brought a knife to the track meet, he provoked the situation to occur, and intentionally escalated it and murdered Austin Metcalf.

No, they chose to avoid possible legal issues, he had the credits required, he attended the school virtually for the remaining time, and didn't get to walk on graduation.
They weren't afraid of being called racist, they weren't going to risk being sued for punishment without due process.
I see where you're coming from, so I did a little research, and thought perhaps it's part of ESSA every student succeeds act (which is the same as NCLB with less/no oversight, none federally)
...and this makes sense, it's likely policy, credit completion = graduate, not want to risk a lawsuit, etc.
