I warned about this last year. Now it’s happening.
Students at Meru University have issued a strike notice (Monday 20th) over New University Funding Model by William Ruto.
Many say they now have fee arrears have been increased to KSh 135,000 per semester.
The same complaints are coming from KU.
Some students say:
In first year, fees were lower.
Now suddenly, the amounts have been increased.
This is exactly what I warned about.
Under the previous system, fees were predictable, about KSh 15,000-17,000 per semester from admission to graduation.
This new model?
Unpredictable. Adjustable. And clearly rising.
I said the danger was this:
Wait until students settle in,
Wait until the spotlight fades,
Then increase the burden.
And now it’s happening.
Quietly, students are dropping out.
This is a social crisis in the making.
If you or someone you know has dropped out because of fees, speak up.
Share your story, I will amplify it.
Injustice thrives in silence.
Demand accountability.
Demand a fair system.
