If two people start a company and one contributes 90% of the capital while the other contributes just 10%, when the business starts struggling, who do you think is more likely to walk away first? Exactly, Now apply that same principle to your relationships
People thought this was a joke.
It is not.
Finding a life partner gets harder the older you get. Not because good people disappear. But because two things happen to you quietly as you age.
First, you grow comfortable with being alone.
Second, you become harder to impress and harder to read.
There is a window when you are young and impressionable. You feel things deeply and you do not yet have the vocabulary to rationalize those feelings away. The person you meet in that window is also in that window. Two impressionable people falling in love is how love actually works. You are both still soft enough to take the shape of each other.
Impressionability is directly proportional to the frequency falling in love
But That window slowly closes with age.
A 45-year-old man trying to fall in love is not the same creature as a 22-year-old man trying to fall in love. By 45, he understands love as an emotion. He can name it, manage it, and keep it at arm's length. That is not wisdom working in his favour. That is armour working against him.
The will to life as Schopenhauer called it, the same will to procreate and have offspring and family is an enemy of reason.
The wiser an individual becomes, the harder it is for them to settle down.
And people grow wiser with age.
And it is the same for women.
Then life comes in.
Bills. Siblings to feed. Morning commutes. A career that demands everything. Nobody is paying your rent anymore. Nobody is covering your meals. You are now fully inside the real world, and the real world does not pause for romance. You come home tired. You wake up early. You have a list of responsibilities that existed before you even had a chance to want something for yourself.
There is no time.
The library years, school years, medical school years are the last years when your time is structurally yours. You have no mortgage. You have no dependants. You have frustrations, yes, but you also have evenings. You have a shared experience with people your age who are also figuring themselves out. You are surrounded by people becoming.
That environment produces love. Not perfectly. But it produces it.
So when I say go to the library and find a slim girl with a big forehead yes, it is funny. But it is also true. A studious girl who carries herself quietly in a library at twenty-two is going to grow into something formidable. The big forehead is not a joke either. It tends to settle beautifully into a woman's face over time. That is not objectification. That is just observation.
The deeper point is this.
Nobody chooses a spouse for you anymore. There is no arrangement, no family meeting, no deliberate process. You are on your own. Which means you have to be deliberate yourself or you will simply drift through your most fertile relational years focused entirely on academics and wake up at thirty-two wondering why everything feels harder.
It feels harder because it is harder.
Make the decision consciously while you are still in a place where the decision is available to you.
Medical school gives you six to nine years.
Use some of it.
