@devinamehra People prefer to get gist of a topic than reading books. Thanks to ChatGpt and all similar platforms, this trend will only pickup pace because it can quickly share synopsis.

That being said, I also spent 4-5 years in Mumbai and I was surprised to see very few book stores there.
