BHRG documented and independently verified the execution of at least 35 Baloch citizens in Iranian prisons during the first half of 2026. The actual number is likely higher due to severe restrictions on access to information.

Syed Bibi Baloch, a member of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, was summoned once again to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) office in Turbat this morning, only hours after being released the previous night. Upon her arrival, she was arrested and transferred to Central Jail under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3 MPO) for one month.
For the past eight months, Syed Bibi has faced continuous harassment by state authorities. After being placed on the Fourth Schedule, she was required to report to the CTD office every week while her phone and communications remained under constant surveillance.
A widow living in Turbat with her two young children, Syed Bibi supported her family through traditional embroidery after her husband’s death. Since being placed on the Fourth Schedule, however, she has endured sustained psychological pressure and intimidation. Her bank accounts were frozen, her embroidery business collapsed, and obstacles were created even in relation to her children’s education, making it nearly impossible to live a normal life because of her dissenting views.
Four days ago, following the Baloch Yakjehti Committee’s announcement of a rally in Turbat, the pressure against her intensified. Throughout the day, she received repeated calls and threats from CTD officials. Later that night, at around 9:30 p.m., security personnel raided her home, arrested her, and took her to the Women’s Police Station, where she was told she would be released after the rally concluded.
She was released at approximately 10:00 p.m. the following night. Just thirty minutes later, she received another call stating that Military Intelligence (MI) personnel wanted to question her. She replied that she could not appear in the middle of the night and would present herself the next morning.
Despite this, police raided her home three times during the night, breaking down the door, damaging household belongings, and searching the premises. Officers also raided her mother’s home, harassed family members, attempted to forcibly take away her bedridden brother, photographed the interior of the house, and caused further damage to property.
Fearing for their safety, Syed Bibi spent the night with her two children in a graveyard beside her late husband’s grave. The next morning, she spoke to the media at the Turbat Press Club and publicly described the events. While there, she received another call instructing her to report to the CTD office. When she complied, she was arrested again and detained for one month under the 3 MPO.
The treatment of Syed Bibi Baloch raises serious concerns about human rights, civil liberties, due process, and the rule of law. Silence in the face of such allegations risks creating an environment in which further abuses may occur.
We respectfully call upon the international community—including the United Nations, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), relevant UN Special Rapporteurs, international human rights organizations, democratic governments, civil society organizations, and independent media—to closely monitor the situation, raise these concerns with the relevant authorities, and advocate for the protection of fundamental rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and due process. We also urge national and international institutions committed to justice and human rights to help ensure accountability and the protection of individuals facing alleged harassment or arbitrary detention.

The families of detained BYC leaders are scheduled to hold a peaceful protest today at Barma Hotel, Sariab, Quetta, against the life sentences imposed on Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shah Jee. Ahead of the demonstration, the area has been placed under heavy police presence, with security forces surrounding the venue and creating serious concerns that peaceful participants may be prevented from exercising their lawful rights or subjected to arbitrary arrests.
The right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental freedom guaranteed under the law and protected by international human rights law, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. State authorities have a legal obligation to facilitate peaceful demonstrations, ensure the safety of participants, and refrain from intimidation, excessive restrictions, or any action that unlawfully suppresses civic expression.
We urge the people of Sariab and all areas of Quetta to stand in solidarity with the affected families and participate in this peaceful protest. Defending the right to peaceful assembly is essential for the protection of human rights, justice, and the rule of law. Silence in the face of repression only deepens injustice.

The detention of Zubair Shah Agha under the 3MPO immediately after a press conference held by the families of detained BYC leaders reflects the continued misuse of preventive detention laws to silence peaceful political voices. The use of the colonial era draconian law of 3MPO against activists and human rights defenders raises serious concerns about the shrinking space for peaceful political participation and freedom of expression.
Zubair Shah Agha is a peaceful political activist who has consistently spoken against injustice, repression, and human rights violations while standing with oppressed in their pursuit of justice and dignity. His detention is a punishment for his political beliefs and his commitment to peaceful advocacy.

"The manner in which the cases of BYC's arrested leadership have suddenly been accelerated from jail courts to faceless trials conducted via video link, to repeated adjournments of hearing dates reflects a deep frustration and restlessness on the part of the judiciary. The repeated insistence of the prosecutor that the trial must proceed and that they must be convicted made it abundantly clear to us that the orders have come from above, and that the court will now move swiftly to complete its formalities.
The unjust sentence handed down on 22 June is not merely a travesty of a fair trial, it is the funeral of this country's own law and constitution, and it will stand as one of the darkest chapters in history. The very FIR upon which this conviction rests is itself contested: two separate FIRs have been registered over the same incident, charging a single individual with murder in two entirely different ways. This alone makes plain that this case does not exist in any legal or factual sense. And the manner in which this fabricated killing has been used as the basis to sentence our colleagues, BYC leaders to life imprisonment is nothing but the state's frustration, and its humiliation.
A question must be raised: if this case and this FIR regarding a killing genuinely existed, then why have BYC leaders been detained for the past fifteen months? If the evidence was there, why did it take so long — why were they first trapped under MPO before this case was constructed around them? All of this has been exposed before the entire world that how the state has used its own laws and constitution to imprison BYC leaders.
When extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and mutilated bodies are dumped on a daily basis in Balochistan, I hold every security force, every brigadier, every colonel, every intelligence agency, MI, ISI, and all others — individually deserving of the severest accountability. They believe they have delivered justice. A person can only be called just when they apply the same standard to both sides.
It is clear what kind of deliberate conspiracy is at work in Balochistan. One aimed at suppressing the most prominent voices, at extinguishing in the hearts of the people the very concept of peaceful and organized struggle. But we will not be shaken. Living in this very ground, we will carry this struggle forward, we will carry the fight for human rights forward.
The mission that belonged to Dr. Mahrang and Saibgatullah Shahji belongs to all of us, to every child of Balochistan, and to every child who has witnessed state brutality and grown up under its shadow. And how many people will you throw into prisons? How many voices will you silence? You believe that through such tactics you can reduce people to silence but absolutely not. You have been doing exactly this for the past seventy-six years, and you have seen what the consequences have been.
Your every act of oppression has given birth to resistance. We consider this your greatest failure, and through our struggle, we will prove it to you."

This verdict, which is an affront to the right to a fair trial, demonstrates how Pakistan’s anti-terrorism laws are being cynically misused to silence peaceful dissent.
