I'm a classical music composer and psychology PhD student. I try to do research and write music that might make the world a little more rational and happy.
@DrCamiloOrtiz Caring about people suffering in the world (trans people, refugees, victims of domestic violence, etc.) is what makes me a leftist and is a huge factor in why my mental health isn't as great as it could be. I'm just speaking from personal experience here.
@therabbithole I would expect a mild overrepresentation based on cognitive data and demographic factors for these schools.

@DanielVoUSA Especially since the only way they can really show how annoying he is involves his interactions with his crew, giving them more importance and relevance just makes sense.
@therollinnolan I'd agree, but swap martial arts with Bumi's motivations. There were several weak choreographical moments (Sozin is immune to wind because he's strong?) and Bumi had a more solid lesson (war involves difficult choices and harming people) to teach Aang than he did in the original.
@therabbithole Acknowledging WS dog-whistles seems like a good thing. Answering a question without providing relevant context can sometimes lead to a misleading answer.
@StefanFSchubert If humans benefitted from migration, looking at and studying the details of mountains could be extremely useful for large-scale navigation. Finding them visually stunning seems like it might help.
@StefanFSchubert Icy mountains nearby in particular seem like a sign that the water nearby should be clear. What do we know about the timeline of humans' increasingly sensitive water consumption?
@rgblong One possibility is that this is an example of how genes can sometimes be adaptive by adjusting the environment to speed up selection. Groups that pick on tigers evolve faster than groups that don't, thus more quickly developing adaptive qualities.
@cate_cevallos I personally love reading research papers. At least in psychology, the clarity of the language is exceptionally appealing to my autism and need for specifics. As a slow reader, I appreciate the reliable structure so I know what I can skip.
@the_wilderless Dress up for tasks. This is an extention of the 'keep your shoes on' advice.

@michaelcurzi The heck is a postrat. I can't tell if this is meant to be ironic or not.
"Meme" is a useful word invented by a nerd that just helps us think of complex concepts more efficiently. It's kind of just the nature of language to evolve as a culture flows through different states.
