🇳🇬📍I spent a little over three weeks in Nigeria for a strictly private visit and personal pilgrimage, and I’m still struggling to put it all into words.
I wrote three different articles and deleted every single one. None of them felt honest enough. None of them could truly hold the weight of what everyday life looks like for ordinary people.
So maybe all I can say is this: NIGERIANS ARE RESILIENT.
Not because everything is fine, but because sometimes, that’s the only way to keep going.
And yet, somehow, in the middle of it all, there is life. There is laughter. There is a kind of joy that refuses to disappear.
If you have the means, and if you’re lucky enough to stay untouched by insecurity, Nigeria can feel like the most vibrant, most alive place in the world.
And maybe that’s the contradiction that stays with me the most.

I shall yet write the obituaries of all, who have desired and sought my demise, and it shall be my lot, to point at the ruins of empires, that have assailed me, and oppressed my own..

A letter to Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Dear General Obasanjo,
I am glad that you are alive to witness the 4th Republic democracy you and your fellow General-brothers bequeathed to Nigerians during your 2nd time in power.
I know the pain, anguish and punishing regret you must feel when you see the continuing monstrosity of the APC and the extreme pain it is inflicting on the people.
The civilian-military fusion style of dictatorship that they have inflicted on the country, the extreme hardship and poverty of the body, mind and soul, the sheer shamelessness and rascality of the political class of thugs, forgers, thieves, fraudsters and intellectual turncoats that is being unleashed everyday and at elections...and most sickening of all the bigotry and tribalism that has wracked through the country like broken furniture ...under the "Do or die" politics you “foundationed” during your presidency.
During your presidency...You prodded and egged your most notorious electoral umpire Maurice Iwu to bulldoze your party, the PDP to victory in almost every election: Results were written and allocated directly from ASO rock, governors were impeached with less than constitutional means and even kidnapped if they proved too stubborn.
You accommodated and protected tin gods of thuggery and electoral violence such as Adedibu of Oyo and Bob Izua of Edo and laid the template for electoral vandalism and lawlessness that is being replicated on an upgraded and turbocharged scale by the APC demons, raised, nurtured and hatched during your presidency.
Today these demons (most were your errand boys), mostly mediocres and thugs clad in agbada and suits and their offspring have now grown and matured into principalities without regard for democracy, its tenets or anything close to it.
They relish in its semblance and basks in its proceeds. They will be Jobless without it and like vapor out of a boiling kettle they can not and have refused to be put back and cured of the malaise that your administration infected and cooked them in 20 years ago.
Today this pestilential class of political madness, corruption and lawlessness has pervaded the entire country. Corruption is now the new normal of society. It has become the template that filters any one to upward economic mobility and status, ...it is so normal that we the upright don't know the difference and partake in it, as we just live in it to survive.
The economy is now in tatters because these unintelligent and lunatical offspring of “do or die” politics, whose place in a normal society of meritocracy and honesty would have been in farms and factories are now ruling and running a country filled with some of the most intelligent minds in the world.
They are managing whole economic and political institutions they will never be equipped to run efficiently or effectively; causing 200m people to gallop along an undulating economic and political terrain of pain, misery, destitution and mind-mutating poverty.
Dear General, I am sure you must have reflected on this once in a while and have your regrets and wish you could turn back time!...Your recent advocacy for good and youthful governance speaks to it and you have our thanks for standing in the right this time.
But it also attests to the saying that you cannot give what you don't have ...even if you give all you that can. You had two chances, more opportuned than any leader dead or alive since FDR of the US to set a nation on the path of greatness, honesty and probity, but each of these times you gave in to darker forces and led the country into the hands of mediocre leadership ...for selfish reasons??.
You could have transformed this country with the power and authority God divinely awarded you, but you didn't or couldn't. You had a Lee Kuan Yew moment and let it slip.
Consequently we suffered a series of mediocre, and deathly leadership in Buhari, Babangida, and Abacha who wrecked and drained the country's stamina, coffers and intellectual depth with nepotism, corruption, banditry and blind thievery.
We are now at a crossroad ... where our political and economic paths are no longer parallels but intersecting in a most brutal way. It is pulling down the social and religious stability that have tenuously endured for 60 years. People, out of hunger and desperation are now more aware of their political choices but less aware of their political rights and might.
The APC is led by the most opaque, shambolic, shameless and shrouded corrupt political class the nation has ever experienced. It has reverted our political state to the dark days of your administration and most likely the ‘60s as a template to continue their disastrous rule of terror, propaganda, bigotry and mismanagement.
This is not a letter of blame but a note of shame to all past leaders who have led this country thinking that legacy starts and ends with them.
The most painful punishment is seeing the ills you could have cured but enjoyed come to hunt those you care about and you can no longer stop it.
I wish you well, good health and the longest life...in hope that you will witness that which you now fervently desire for this country.
Keep up the good work.
Redemption is earned forgiveness.
