@ProspectsUsmnt I'd agree Charlotte FC has only been a professional franchise since 2022 (Feb first match). I think you need to give a club 7 - 10 years to determine if they are generating players via their academy.
@ProspectsUsmnt@ProspectsUsmnt have you seen a 2026-27 MLS Next Schedule yet? How is it less than a month before the start of matches and they have not made it public yet?
@USSoccerColl@USSoccerColl have you seen a 2026-27 MLS Next Schedule yet? How is it less than a month before the start of matches and they have not made it public yet?
@USSoccerColl@ProspectsUsmnt Those reasons make sense for MLS. But if you think of the players, specifically the 1st year player at U18 (since it’s a combined age group), that is prime recruiting time for college and now they miss that opportunity.
@USSoccerColl This is the most ridiculous rule that exists in youth sports. A player who has absolutely no affiliation to a club has to have his rights purchased from that club by another, just because of where he lives in proximity to a club. Yet that player/family see none of those $$$
@ProspectsUsmnt That's a silly question. I mean that sarcastically. Why aren't all MLS Next games streamed? At least from the national events like Flex, Fest, GA Cup, and Playoffs? You can literally watch a u6 tee-ball game live streamed these days.
@mark_radigan How does this change things financially? They are still limited to play only 25 matches per year, those matches are now just spread across two semesters. Most schools were already playing 4-6 spring matches anyway.
@ProspectsUsmnt But that is now happening here with NextPro. Instead of using that team to continue the development pathway, you are seeing more and more players brought in to win games and win the NextPro championship.
@ProspectsUsmnt Clubs need to decide whether NextPro is meant to be a next step in the development from Academy to First Team, or a true second division, like the Championship in England. Most international academies do not use their second team to try to win meaningless championships.
