A special moment remembering Dianne from @BBCNWT days during a visit to Media City and to her special rose garden. The @TrustDianne works hard to alert women early about ovarian cancer symptoms. Check it out. Dianne is still hugely missed. Xx
Today on the #inglorious12th months of hard work by organised criminals wiping our natural heritage comes to fruition.
And all so they can kill yet more animals for fun and profit.
Idea, re airports as well as family fast track - maybe people over 70 ( and no, I’m 65) who have no disabilities but are just struggling a bit could be allowed the same slightly easier access- with maybe some staff who are happy to lift luggage on hand - just an idea
I can understand the call for the UK and Europe installing more air-conditioning (it’s got hotter!)
But, if that’s the case, there’s *also* the need to install more shading.
This is social housing in Barcelona by the way…
@cm_bagot I got a new waterbutt on Sunday to collect off a new shed that arrived on Friday. Xcited to go look in it today. My others had got down to a quarter full.
In 25 years of teaching, I have never seen such a rapid & fundamental change in the way children are thinking, behaving & interacting. I thought it was Covid but I now think it's the digital age they're growing up in & I really hope people cleverer than me are looking in to this.
A little story about M&S vs Waitrose - and how kindness wins.
On Monday I went to M&S to order sandwich platters for a parish event this weekend. They’re easier to drive to and park at than my local Waitrose.
But the assistant told me their ordering system was still down due to the recent security breach.
“That’s a shame,” I said. “I’ll pop to Waitrose instead.”
“No, don’t do that!” she replied. “Come back Saturday evening — we’ll have platters left. I’ll put some aside for you.” She took my name and assured me it was sorted.
Saturday evening: I turn up. No platters. None. Nada. 🤯
Panic mode.
I drove to another M&S. One lonely 14-piece platter left. I grabbed it. Still nowhere near enough.
On a whim, I went to Waitrose, praying they might have had a cancelled order.
I explained everything to the customer service desk. The supervisor, John, told me they don’t sell sandwich platters off the shelf and had nothing available.
“Fair enough,” I said. “Can’t believe M&S let me down.”
Then John said something remarkable:
“Tell you what. Grab a basket, take as many sandwiches as you need. I’ll authorise them for free so you don’t have to pay.”
I was stunned. “That’s incredibly kind, but really — there’s no need. I’m happy to pay, I just regret not coming to you first.”
He insisted. Walked to the fridge section with me. I was picking out basics, trying not to take the mick — but he was the one loading up the trolley. Sandwiches. Wraps. Enough to feed a parish.
No fuss. Just generosity.
That small act of kindness turned a stressful evening into something beautiful. And now a whole community knows about it.
Waitrose: you rock.
M&S: maybe don’t make promises you can’t keep.
"Tankers have been brought in to "help keep taps flowing" for customers in a part of Surrey, a water company has said."
Seriously, it's the 21st century, @thameswater has a monopoly supply drinking water to 15 million people and it can't even keep the taps running. Really, what is the point?

@suetthatsme Hugs from another Sue. So sorry you clearly needed to explain. Some people just plain nasty. Hope you managed to clear your mind and get some sleep.
The boom in urban tree planting is *brilliant* news, but why are so many councils planting exotic, garden centre trees, often short-lived ones, instead of northern European native trees which are so important for invertebrates, birds and wildlife? This morning I’ve seen Gingko, Persian walnut, American sweetgum, Chinese tree of heaven and false acacia. What are they doing? It’s like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!
