@NipahDUBS But the first game literally was though? A FANTASY medieval setting, sure, but medieval nonetheless. A submarine, airship, air fortress, and time travel do NOT make it NOT medieval because it's a FANTASY game.
This isn't restricted to the first game either.
@Naomi_Misora93 Hard disagree. X does have a linear structure, but it still rewards exploration and lets you revisit areas. Also, Bikanel and The Calm Lands are huge, and even the smaller areas don't feel as restricted as XIII. Design Doc made a good video on this.

@warper2509 Hiroyuki Ito, the game's director, only requested individual songs for the main cast, and about 12 other tracks from Nobuo Uematsu. He spent a year making 160 tracks, too many to use in the game, 20 of them not in the game itself. Uematsu has often called it his proudest work.
@warper2509 It wasn't just to compensate for not being able to do realistic facial expressions. Final Fantasy IX's aesthetic was leaning into the fantasy aspects of the series like the game itself, hearkening back to the older games and going less for realism. It's aged well because of that.
@SonicHero3D I usually take longer but that's partly because I spend time gil grinding around the mid-game and also you'll clock in plenty more time on all the extra stuff, which is probably why most of my Dawn of Souls playthroughs are about 20-ish hours lol.
@SonicHero3D In mild defense of OG, I love how it handles Red XIII/Nanaki's story. Rebirth doesn't even give it a moment to breathe before "lol dude you gotta come check out ghost town." A lot of the emotional impact was lost. For such a bigger game, sometimes Rebirth doesn't take its time.
@cactender It's something that worries me about the idea of a IX remake. Don't get me wrong, IX is my favorite. I love the attention it's been getting lately and would love to see a remake...but I'm scared that they might ruin the art style by making things more realistic ๐
@cactender FFIX has a more timeless aesthetic because they leaned into the "fantasy" aspect of the older entries. It doesn't look as realistic as VIII or X visually, but in terms of how all 3 originally look, I would argue that it's aged better because of that.
@Sebbywebz You...you do realize this is Brave Exvius minus the microtransactions and gacha elements, right? A game that came out two years before Octopath?
@erafps All they literally had to do was swap the regions so we wouldn't get this kind of situation, but no, NRG vs LEV bo3 AGAIN. Vitality vs FUT bo3 AGAIN. GE vs FS bo3 AGAIN. The only exclusion is DRG vs XLG which was a bo5. But all these matchups ALREADY HAPPENED IN THEIR REGIONS.
@paradoomed It's Claire. Did you really expect anything less than this? Of course she is and it is.
No, the real question is if they'll be able to make Steve not be the actual worst, but I ain't holding my breath.
@Chunky_Milk____ Y'all crazy if you don't think Solid Snake vs Sam Fisher is one of the most enjoyable stomps in the series.
(Especially because Otacon gets his own stomp moment too)
Make no mistake; Fisher didn't even stand a chance.
@ClaireMax It's ok to not want kids, especially if you're with someone who feels the same way, though communicating that is important. It's also ok to want kids, but again, relationship + communication.
Worst-case, something changes your mind and you have options. Best-case, one less worry
@JasH757@Pongtris@ZeldaCycle Yeah, but I was more referring to the point about direct sequels. That's why I also didn't bring up Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, though Hourglass is a pretty direct follow-up to WW.
