@davidbessis One could say they "exist" everywhere, from the circle and it's diameter, or the Taylor and a resp function, which are in the "realm of ideas" to the cards in a deck in the "real" world. Some mathematicians study the one, some study the latter. Some both and everything in between
@matspike I haven't gone into the details but doesn't this say that they tend to get into clusters (plural) and then each cluster collapses to a point as opposed to all clusters collapsing to the same point.
@archernikov If you can convince them that natural numbers, integers, and rational numbers have the same size, they probably would understand a diagonalization argument. Otherwise, maybe for the wrong reasons, but they would still believe there are infinites of different sizes.
@katemath This is actually more similar to a question asked in real life outside of academic mathematics where you have to make assumptions. A valid response could then be "If the triangles are similar x is 27/4. Otherwise we need more information"... Then again I can only assume.
