@clairlemon@aziz0nomics I would agree. However, I think now the pushback is much more assertive and stronger than it was during the insanity of a few years ago.
They took advantage of politeness and efforts to be understanding, and intimidated people
People aren't afraid of them anymore.
@FlowJunkie311@jenteach13 You believe it. Do you also KNOW it?
I've been teaching for 32 years and NEVER met someone who was doing it because it "pays well."
@PiereChangstein@jenteach13 I'd be all for that. Then the dopes attacking them would realize that high-quality education is expensive.
People want to pay well-liquor prices for top-shelf results.
@jenteach13@BickertGr46145 The "heart" thing drives me nuts. These are people stuck in the mentality that sees teaching as some sort of charity work.
They're stuck in the 1950s.
@jenteach13 Yes - and what you found is just the tip of the iceberg. Teaching is a VERY bad financial decision for a talented, qualified young person out of college.
They'll always be able to get bodies, but if people are unhappy with teacher quality now...just wait. A storm is coming.
@jenteach13 BTW - I stopped arguing with the "summers off, great benefits" crowd YEARS ago. There's no getting through that kind of simplistic, uninformed, angry, "punch-clock mentality" thinking. Funny thing - none of them want to pay for the excellence they claim to demand.

RE:podcast comment RE: US power with no political impact: Isn't the issue that the US isn't willing to do what it takes to defeat intractable, ideological enemies like we were in WW2?
The US and "international community" don't have the stomach for it.
Iran does.
@marcportermagee Figure out how to get adults to read more. The culture of reading starts in the home.
Most parents these days sit on the couch and scroll.
My students complain to me about this all the time.
@jenteach13 No - but I've seen plenty of "initiatives" that I knew would disappear within 1-2 years and then get memory-holed.
I now 100% understand why veteran teachers are so cynical.
@MsMelChen The people who ask those questions are 99% highly "educated," privileged, leftist, white people.
If they don't reproduce, I won't shed a tear.
