Director, Corporate Communications - Social Media and more for @Schwab4RIAs. Gaming/sci-fi/comedy/poker nerd. #ADHD haver and #neurodiversity advocate.
@michicoy19@Dmurr68@AnthonyYepez I 100% agree those are table-stakes skillsets, and still I wouldn't trust the marketing leader that would decide if a marketer possessed those skillsets based solely on their follower count. That would tell me the leader doesn't understand social and be a red flag.
It's a good parable for approaching communication and neurodiversity in general. (Other than the fact that I'm generally not trying to take all of everyone's money π€£)
A lesson I learned playing live poker: you will lose a LOT of money if you rely on a blanket heuristic of "this expression = this meaning". Instead, you gotta build a real-time mental database of every person's betting choices at the table and the associated visual cues. (1/3)
This allows you to build a unique baseline in your mind for each opponent. It's only after you've established those baselines that judging an expression as a "tell" can be even remotely accurate. This takes time and attention and is a bespoke process. (2/3)
@WhatTheADHD I REALLY wish these checklists also asked about the positive indicators too - Do they...
...thrive in high-pressure situations?
...come up with creative solutions to problems?
...exhibit curiosity and a desire to learn?
@SNeurotypicals I remember in junior high, a girl I was interested in told me: "You're weird, but you're a good kind of weird I think."
My reply: "Huh. You mean like how penicillin is a good kind of mold?"
I did not get the date.
@MackCollier I think 99.9% of users lack the same pay-it-forward mentality or even awareness to boost others' content that you have. I think it discourages posters with smaller followings from contributing and will further narrow the stream of content to established voices.
@Kat_LeBlanc Generally, in social media, animation > static imagery. It's about stopping them scrolling long enough for them to even read the copy/click the link. Motion engages our lizard brains. Doesn't need to be high production value to see benefits. (e.g. text animation)
@ibogost To me I guess it just implies a lot of research and background work vs. purely a βthink pieceβ? Or that that itβs being developed by a group vs. an individual author?
@shawnmbarnett Hades is terrific too! Roguelikes can be really hit or miss with me (bounced off of Dead Cells hard), but Hades hits the sweet spot and Iβm looking forward to the sequel - enjoy!!!
@SNeurotypicals Something that seemed to put them at ease: Letting them know they didn't need to decode a bunch of pop-culture references to forge good working relationships. Demonstrate character and build trust by doing what you say you will and doing it well (i.e. What ND folks EXCEL at π).
@SNeurotypicals Just began as a ND mentor to a new hire and got pretty nebulous guidance outside of "help them feel comfortable with the culture".
So far, my mentee seems to appreciate just having a sounding board they don't have to mask for vs. looking for any specific advice from me.
My life has been positively shaped by the veterans in it. My grandfather, uncle, and cousin all served. I work with so many smart and talented veterans every day at Schwab. I feel gratitude for their service and their influence on me over the years. #VeteransDay
