Timbuktu of Malian Empire (present day Mali) in West Africa is home to one of the world's oldest university of Sankore, where in the 1200s AD there are books full of manuscripts written mostly in Ajami (In this case in African languages such as Hausa being written in a script similar to Arabic).

When Europeans and Western Asians began visiting and colonizing Mali from 1300s-1800s AD, Malians began to hide the manuscripts in basements, attics and underground, fearing destruction or theft by foreigners.

This was certainly a good idea, given Europeans' history of stealing and/or destroying texts in Kemet and other areas of the continent. Many of the scripts, such as the one shown below, were mathematical and astronomical in nature.

BREAKING: President Biden has announced that on Tuesday he will sign a proclamation to establish a national monument honoring Emmett Till and his mother Mamie Till-Mobley.

Details:

- The National Monument will span across 3 locations in Illinois and Mississippi, and according to The Independent will "protect places that are central to the story of Till's life and death at age 14, the acquittal of his white killers and his mother's activism, which helped spark the civil rights movement."

- Emmett Till was lynched as a teen in Mississippi in 1955 after being accused of whistling at a white woman.

- Tuesday is the anniversary of Till's birth in 1941.

This is an action that all Americans should be able to get behind.
