@JoelLeForestier I’ve used a combination of the 3-pass method https://t.co/8OgbVEa1Qa and the anatomy of a research article. https://t.co/ZpFn1R8wy0 to teach this across several social science courses.
👋. Normally I’d be planning for the next big milestone, but this summer I’m taking time to enjoy my family, volunteer with local orgs that matter to me, and just reorient myself after the last few years. Highly recommend a professional pause.
Did you hear? #TheQuestioneers’ teacher #LilaGreer is starring in her own picture book! Her story about kindness, learning to face your fears, & the profound difference that one brilliant teacher can make is coming this November. Preorder now: https://t.co/DWOzdGVnN1 @andreabeaty
It’s been a great day at the @negifted conference! Fantastic educational topics and a great networking experience with fellow educators from across the state.
I’ve had recent convos in #highered and #ruraldevelopment about change and how to accomplish certain tasks as a leader. As someone who works in interdisciplinary spaces, the focus on the wielder’s questions resonates with my responses. Good read.
"If you're looking for tools to fix a process that's broken, though, they won't help… they can even make matters worse. If your tools force you to work in a new way, move on. Tools should fit the wielder, not the other way around." — @kennethn

One of the things I occasionally get paid to do by companies/execs is to tell them why everything seemed to SUDDENLY go wrong, and subs/readers dropped like a stone.
So, with everything going on at Twitter rn, time for a thread about the Trust Thermocline /1
@NEWesleyan Experiences like this are one of the reasons I love working in a higher education environment where community matters. Cheers to my newest friend, and to interacting with students, families, and the greater Nebraska community in positive (and fun!) ways. /end
Last week I had lunch with a potential @NEWesleyan student who brought along a parent and younger sibling. The younger sibling and I became fast friends, bonding over our grilled cheese sandwiches and shared love of science. Then came the candidness… /1
@NEWesleyan In the middle of our convo she said, “When I’m old enough to come to this school, you’ll be dead!” After a shared look and hearty laugh with her mom, we moved on to more important topics, like our favorite colors (spoiler: hers was the rainbow b/c it contains all colors. Obvs) /2
Yes! My current fave workshop I teach is my how to engage with research articles - students need to be told it’s ok to skip around when reading! These aren’t fiction books: read the abstract, then go to the discussion and spoil the ending. Reading critically= valuable life skill
Banned Books Week is a serious topic around here, but this morning, we offer a lighthearted memory of when we failed to explain the topic to our cake decorator and ended up with "Band Books Week." Polley Music Library made the best of the situation! #NailedIt#BannedBooksWeek
Over the past two decades, Nebraska has lost half its reporting firepower. That’s why we’re here. We can do more. Next month, we’re partnering with @noiseomaha to take that problem by the horns.
