When I produced a monolayer oil drop experiment a few weeks ago (@CLEAPSS) to show how small particles were, teachers said that the maths (volume of a cylinder) was too much and the there is nothing visble other than glitter, talc or lycopdium shooting back. Consider graphite!

Use fine Al (Christmas) glitter to show how 1 drop of 0.01% (w/V) methanolic oleic acid solution moves glitter to obtain a monolayer. Measure the radius of the contracted circle to find the length of molecule. I got 4.7nm. Accpeted value is 1.97nm. @CLEAPSS, #RealTimeChem
