Unfortunately we hit the root of the coral at 2.15m, it was probably a Porites that started growing on top of an older one approximately 200 years ago. Next we will target a 2m Diploastrea, could be 400 years old.

We are excited about our upcoming first field trip since the pandemic hit, we are heading for Sarawak in Malaysia. Taking river and seawater samples from ridge to reef and coring some Porites bommies. So relieved to finally enable our PhD students to experience a coral reef.
