We have been loving our @ScodeSpelling lessons lately. We practised words with the ‘gu’ code by playing a game of ‘Guess Who’! We are always revisiting our prior spelling learning too. #KeelbyEnglish#KeelbyY4#KeelbyPrimary

Love idioms. People say some weird s**t! Reminded of this one today, to 'give someone the cold shoulder.' This phrase originates from the practice of serving unwanted guests a shoulder of cold meat in the hope they'd go home!

Phrases and idioms are an important way for children to understand the nuances of language and hear vocabulary in context. Quotes that include idioms can get them to think, deepen knowledge and provide rich discussions opportunities.

Sticking with the shoulder theme, 'a chip on your shoulder.' This phrase originated in the USA in the 1800s. People were looking for a fight would place a piece of wood on their shoulder and challenge others to knock it off! #idioms#etymology#vocabularyteaching
