‘A tax and spend government with better TikTok’
Andy Haldane was chief economist at the Bank of England and has been advising Andy Burnham. He says the Prime Minister's financial credibility is at risk.
In 2008 the UK paid the same price for natural gas as the US.
Today we pay eight times more.
Yet another example of how badly this country is and has been led.
If govt had just stayed out of it, this would not be the case. But no. They had to get involved.
As the MP for one of the UK's top tourist destinations, and an historic UNESCO heritage city, I have yet to meet or hear from a single business who welcomes the idea of a #TouristTax. What our hospitality industry needs instead, and urgently, is for VAT to be halved in line with Europe. #VATsTheProblem
We found parts of London where 76% of social housing has a head not born in the UK.
We need social housing to be for British citizens only - and to end mass migration from the third world. Full story here:
While our Prime Minister was making videos about which pork scratchings he likes best, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was rescuing Runcorn from the effects of the government’s own energy policy.
This plant helps keep our drinking water safe and supplies the chemicals used in medicines, power cables, pipes and homes.
Lose that capacity and Britain becomes dependent on foreign suppliers for the essentials of our daily lives.
Britain cannot make everything. But no serious country allows energy costs and carbon taxes to destroy its last domestic source of critical materials.
Labour are not serious…but we are. Watch @clairecoutinho tell you more about how Conservatives will get cheaper cleaner energy in the thread below
Sad news from Italy. A 13-year-old girl on holiday near Venice with her family has been brutally r*ped by 3 migrants. She was found in a confused state, almost naked, unable to speak for one hour. She will be traumatised for a lifetime and may never recover from this ab*se. This is what left-wing politicians and those who vote for them are doing to our women and children. It happens every day, every hour. Enough.
Zohran Mamdani has been mayor for 231 days and this, if manifested, and without hyperbole, will be the most radical act of his tenure by a long shot.
Please allow me to break this down:
He is about to spend 70 million tax dollars on 5 government run grocery stores (notwithstanding Aldi' making clear they could open 5 stores for a fraction of that).
Those five stores, run as they will be on tax dollars every single month no matter how full or empty their aisles will be, will be able to operate at a loss in perpetuity, and offer groceries for 30% less than their competitors.
But because no private grocer could possibly compete with a government competitor undercutting them by 30%, they will all inevitably all go bankrupt.
Mamdani's solution to prevent their bankruptcy? Give those private grocers tax dollars for them to compete and thereby make up for the 30% shortfall that...HE CREATED.
Succinctly: the government spends tax dollars to create an insanely bad problem. Then, to solve the problem that THEY CREATED, the government spends more tax dollars.
Utterly insane.
"You've clearly changed your position."
Faisal Islam learns that Dale Vince, the UK's foremost renewable energy entrepreneur, is now supportive of drilling at Rosebank and Jackdaw in order to "reform our energy system".

Together they represent one of the biggest transfers of wealth from households and businesses to the Treasury in decades - with no noticeable improvement in public services.
Whether you're a business owner employing staff, a parent paying school fees, a farmer planning succession, an entrepreneur building wealth or simply someone trying to save for retirement...
You keep less of what you earn.
You keep less of what you invest.
You leave less to your family.
Death by a thousand cuts is becoming tax policy.
