The disconnect between 'experts' and the public is summed up in today's recession discussion. Millions of families have been living in a personal recession for months, suffering under the strain of rising prices and falling living standards.
This broad and strategic portfolio will focus on seizing the enormous opportunities of our future green economy - tackling climate change, creating green jobs & delivering sustainable economic growth, with the wellbeing of our people at its heart.
Delighted to get to work. 🏴
We are pleased to see the appointment of @MairiMcAllan as Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Net Zero and Energy. We look forward to working together as Scotland's makes great strides towards a #wellbeingeconomy 🌍
Moving to a 4-day work week has been shown to:
⬆️Increase productivity
⬇️Decrease stress, burnout and sickness
⬆️Increase employee wellbeing and firm revenues
Hopefully a government pilot will inspire the private sector to test 4-day weeks.
The Scottish Government has launched a trial of a four-day working week to test whether the practice could be rolled out country-wide.

Life expectancy in Scotland is falling and given the UK's rising inequality and general lack of social mobility, that will be a continuing trend until we accept we need to redesign the economic system!
Creating a wellbeing economy means enhancing wellbeing at all levels. That is why we champion the #WellbeingPension of £235 per week for every pensioner.
People in retirement should be able to live with dignity. It's as simple as that.
We need an economic system that focuses on protecting the wellbeing of society – not the just wealth of shareholders. #WellbeingEconomy https://t.co/C9waGh25eK
Providing a route into the labour force for parents and caregivers, through full funded childcare and social care systems, is essential for boosting productivity and overall wellbeing.
Interesting paper by @OBR_UK showing how the decline of "looking after family/home" as a reason for economic inactivity has come to an end post-pandemic - the same story appears true for Scotland.
Ever wondered how the trend in inactivity due to looking after family and home has changed?

We return to the woods with a slight uptick in inflation for December.
This rise being driven mostly by increased alcohol and tobacco prices, leaves core inflation flat and ends the discussion around rates cuts in the near term.
Whisky is an industry we sometimes take for granted in Scotland but this report shows just how important it is to our country, economy and national story.
🔵77% of our food & drink exports
🔵26% of UK food & drink exports
🔵2% of total UK goods exports
Something to be proud of.

Scotland needs land reform. The value of land is a function of its location and scarcity, neither is determined by improvements made by the owner. The current system rewards landowners for sitting on unimproved land.
If we are serious about land reform, this must change.
“Land is Scotland’s most important asset. It’s time to start treating it as such.”

Creating a #WellbeingEconomy is about more than just Scotland's financial position.
In this weeks wellbeing newsletter @GMKTweets dicusses how we can write a compelling new story for the Scotland we want to build. ⬇️https://t.co/76gcA4gO2m
OK, so while I applaud CX for devoting scarce fiscal space to boosting business investment, am slightly narked by the graphcrime in progress so thought a short thread in order. This chart looks accurate, but ... 1/
Excellent paper from @NIESRorg showing that the negative effects of Brexit on the UK economy are set to worsen, rather than improve over time.
By 2035, UK real GDP is estimated to be 5-6% lower than in a non-Brexit scenario, due to increased trading costs and lower productivity

My latest column on #WellbeingEconomy in The National - Co-existence of consumer culture and wellbeing is a question this Christmas https://t.co/Zr7W19rX3q
CPI inflation has slowed to 3.9%, however core inflation (that is CPI excluding volatile items such as energy and food) remains stubbornly high at 5.1%.
It is clear that the UK economy isn't out of the woods yet.
🚨NEW: The government's levelling-up project has failed.
Our analysis shows how families across the country have gotten poorer since 2015 - with people in the North East hit the hardest.
This a very welcomed move by @scotgov. Setting out a clearly defined goal for creating a #WellbeingEconomy will give policy makers something to aim at and a framework to create needed change.
