There’s still time to join our Community Share events in Midlothian this week and next - FREE SOUP and community conversations with a focus on the protection and improvement of the Lothian Esk rivers.
Can we prevent incidents like the one our project officer saw recently?
- Increased awareness: campaigns like Unblocktober should be highlighted nationally with MPs showing their support
- More consideration on ‘single use’ plastics + how to prevent them littering our sewers, rivers + seas.
Help make a difference today!
You can find a suggested paragraph at the end of our blog. https://t.co/GKlebMk0zM
We’re asking for:
- A clearer timetable on the current ‘transition period’ before the proposed 2026 ban
- Production accountability: label wipes ‘binnable’ or ‘do not flush’...
Unblocktober may be over, but the battle to save our sewers rivers and seas continues + here’s how you can do your bit TODAY: we want you to email your MP to ensure the wet wipe ban is effective!

Massive kudos to staff from Highland Spring who came out to plant native trees on the Danny Burn, a tributary of the Allan Water, for the 3rd year in a row! 22 staff members planted over 220 new trees and also lovingly maintained over 662 trees that were planted before.
Excellent weather last week treating Japanese Knotweed at Easter Breich Woodland on the Breich Water. Many thanks to volunteer Julia who lent a hand with stem injecting!
Work funded thanks to @LoveWestLothian + ScotGov's Nature Restoration Fund, managed by @NatureScot.
❌Balloons are BAD for wildlife: plastic pollution makes us sad☹️❌
While out on a remote peatland survey last week, a colleague spotted this deflated helium balloon... we're proud you passed your exams too, but please keep your balloons under control!
Remember this evening is our Allan Water community event!
Come along to learn about the fascinating research taking place in our catchment and see some of the equipment used to gather data.
See you there tonight!

The 2024 salmon season draws to a close on our local rivers with the Tummel & Garry both closing after last day of fishing tomorrow. Let's hope the fish have a good spawning season.
With thanks to all the project partners and funders supporting this project. A Community Working Group, in partnership with @LoveWestLothian, Forth Rivers Trust, @ScottishEPA, Sustrans, + Green Action Trust, is at the heart of this work.
