#Isles defenseman Matthew Schaefer and the Islanders Children’s Foundation are partnering with @NorthwellHealth to create a child support center named in memory of Schaefer’s late mother, Jennifer.
As part of the partnership, the Islanders Children’s Foundation is donating $150,000 towards the Jennifer Schaefer Child Support Center, located at the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center in New Hyde Park, which will provide a dedicated space for children while their parent undergoes cancer treatment.

@EthanGSN Yeah a team that was in a playoff spot for like 80% of the year riding a Vezina caliber season from their goalie and a record breaking season from their 1OA phenom was going to trade its captain at the deadline, that’s definitely a thing that NHL teams do
@datadomNY If you think that paying a 3rd liner center <$5m / year for 3 years in a rising cap league is the reason that the Islanders will have to move a good player you have completely lost the plot. Pageau isn’t even top 3 on the Islanders list of problem contracts
@ShawnThomav6v5@ZarahnStuart@rybrz I think trading Barzal for a player of equal level as Barzal is the type of trade you see once every 10 years. I can’t believe the conversation is about trading the Isles leading scorer in a season plagued by insane underperformance everywhere else in the lineup.
@ShawnThomav6v5@ZarahnStuart@rybrz If you’re trading Barzal you get one of two things back. Futures for a full tear down rebuild which the Isles aren’t doing, or roster players. What team would give up a roster player that is better than Mat Barzal in exchange for Mat Barzal?
@IslesCave None of these people can ever tell you who they are trading Barzal for. It’s just anger-tweeting without doing the work to realize there is almost no viable trade option that makes the Islanders better tomorrow.
@ZarahnStuart@rybrz Better question for you and the rest of the “trade Barzal” crowd- who are you trading him for? Names would be helpful since nobody can ever seem to come up with anything realistic
@MF1sles Morons everywhere saying trade him, but not a single person says what they’d be trading him for. Go ahead and trade the fastest forward from a slow team, see where that lands them. Can’t stand these people
@stefen_rosner At least Carson Soucy was there to lob a wrister directly into the pads in front of him and then instantly take a penalty because he’s too slow to get back. That’s veteran leadership that someone like Isaiah George can’t give you.
