"A mature person is one who does not think only in absolutes, who is able to be objective even when deeply stirred emotionally, who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and in all things..." ~Eleanor Roosevelt

“There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world…[I]t underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.” #kindness
Pale Blue Dot is a photo of Earth that was taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990 from a distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles) as it was leaving our solar system. This is what Carl Sagan said about the photo:
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”
When I saw them far away, I thought they were demons.
When they got closer, I thought they were were animals.
When they got closer, I saw they were human.
When they got face-to-face, I saw they were my kin.” — African proverb

“The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. One should, for example, be able to see that things are hopeless, yet be determined to make them otherwise.” Scott Fitzgerald

Be curious. Not furious.
I’ve rarely served my best interests through “fury.”
Feel good in the moment? Maybe. Serve my long-term interests (and those around me)? Nope.
It takes discipline to pause, examine and finally act on what might otherwise infuriate me. #mediation
During a very troubling personal conflict, I explained all the reasons why my position was correct. My opponent’s reply?: “There’s more to life than facts, Scott.“ #mediation#justthefacts https://t.co/ymcodpnmZv
This is more about mentalism than mediation, but the first couple minutes in particular are pertinent to understanding ourselves and others, and the stories that we tell (plus, it's entertaining): https://t.co/HpaKFMIEtp #mediation#twoearsonemouth#listen@DerrenBrownBway
“Thinking is difficult. That’s why most people judge.“ — Carl Jung
I want to study & think, but have limited time. Plus, mass information & distraction makes shallow judgements easier than me spending the necessary time for thinking.
#Mediation is shared, focused thinking.
@joerogan@Spotify I am grateful for free speech, critical thinking, and the uncomfortable, transitional experience of ambiguity and uncertainty. Confusion is a part of life.

Difficult conflicts rarely spring up overnight; they’re likely the end-product of long-term practices. Likewise, real solutions are rarely implemented overnight; lasting solutions will likely take consistency & time.

@AnnCoulter We don't know the day or the hour, but "we do know the week."
(at least that's what I read in a book; said books sold at a significant discount a week later).
"When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me." — a former, angry employer
While I’m not sure about making one an ‘ass,’ mediations show #assumptions can create blind spots. Your assumptions — reasonable as they seem — aren’t always true for everyone else. #mediation
