"Lesbians and Gays Support The Miners came about in the miners' strike 12 years ago. So there's been a unity forged between the LGBT+ community and the trade union movement for well over forty years."
Fantastic solidarity from the trade union movement to ensure Durham Pride could continue despite the cuts. This is what community looks like ✊🌈

There is no issue more critical for our broken economy than sky-high energy costs.
The real underlying issue is the eye-watering level of excessive profit being made by energy companies. It’s time to get a grip and rein in the profiteers.
‼️Unite needs You‼️
As part of our 90th anniversary of the battle of Cable St, we’re putting together a tabloid newspaper and magazine to be distributed at workplaces on the run up to 3rd October event, and also a magazine to be distributed on the day.
We are especially keen to receive submissions which emphasise class unity and anti-racism.
If you think you have something to share that might be of

Yesterday, @UKLabour leader hopeful Wes Streeting gave his support for drilling oil & gas from Rosebank & Jackdaw, saying that @Ed_Miliband will come to a decision in the coming weeks.
Unite have argued for years through the No Ban Without A Plan campaign that the cliff edge destruction of the industry would be an act of self harm. The demand for oil and gas will remain for decades until viable, scaled up alternatives are available.
To leave our own resources untapped while shipping in product from around the world makes no economic or ecological sense.

Firstly, our deepest condolences go out to Henry Nowak’s family, friends and all who knew him. Hampshire police clearly have serious questions to answer.
It’s an unfortunate fact that in every community there will be individuals who are motivated by hate. On occasions there are and will be individuals who are seriously ill, let down by the failing, under funded services that may have prevented awful tragedies.
Those who attempt to divide us today, blaming faith, and particularly the carrying of the Kirpan, a small ceremonial curved sword kept in a sheath; a metaphor for defending the truth, protecting the weak and opposing injustice, are potentially fanning the flames which may result in people seeking revenge against the 565,000 Sikh community in the UK, most of whom will possibly carry the Kirpan as an important part of their faith.
There is more that unites us than divides us. Please don’t let hate win.
There are over 250 knife related crimes in the UK each and every day.
That should be the focus of all politicians.
Happy Pride Month 🌈
Pride is a celebration, but also a reminder of the power of solidarity. During the 1984-85 miners’ strike, the LGBTQ+ community stood with miners and their families when they needed support most.
That history matters - not just to remember, but to inform our present and future. The solidarity shown then still matters now, and we must continue to stand together against division and discrimination.
Solidarity then. Solidarity now. Solidarity always. ✊🏳️🌈

As councillors in Birmingham work hard to form a new coalition and provide stable leadership for the city, it’s important to remember that there is already an agreement in place to end the bin strike - with a fair resolution for workers and a commitment to restoring the reliable bin service residents deserve.
The agreement is ready and waiting for signature once the new administration is confirmed. Birmingham residents, workers and communities need this resolved and services restored without further delay.

When we talk about excessive policing, examples like Orgreave and the miners strike, the poll tax and G20 demonstrations are often rightly remembered amongst others. But the Battle of the Beanfield is too often left out.
In 1985, travellers heading to Stonehenge were met with overwhelming police force, violence and mass arrests.
That history matters now.
As protest rights are eroded and police powers expanded in the name of “public order”, the warning is clear: unchecked state power doesn’t protect democracy - it threatens it.
Orgreave. Poll Tax. G20. Beanfield.
Let’s remember our history, but make sure it informs our present and future.

Sun's out and so are we! We are in and around Birmingham, talking to residents and the message is clearer that these skies. No more politicking, no more promises - let's get this deal DONE.
The government’s current ‘clean energy jobs plan’ is a jobs plan without any jobs. The only investment commitment in it is £22.5 million on a few training schemes.
Until we have a real plan, with real investment in our future jobs and energy security, the government should not be abandoning what we already have in the name of net zero.
Put simply, they should not be letting go of one rope before they have hold of another.

We are pleased to see London Mayor Sadiq Khan holding firm against Palantir. As legislators struggle to keep pace with AI developments, the implications of this technology for people's data, privacy, safety and future job security is becoming increasingly and terrifyingly clear. Surveillance tools like this the world over have become the bed fellows of authoritarianism - and it is vital we resist their ongoing attempts to infiltrate our public services ❌

Another week of talking to the good folk of Brum to remind them that @unitetheunion have negotiated a deal ready to put to the members that could end the bin strike that's nearly in it's 17th month.
Its clear that all the way through this the residents have been on the side of workers and that support is still as strong as ever.

Congratulations to the members at Doncaster First Bus who have won pay parity with their colleagues in Sheffield after taking several days strike action.
It proves that when workers refuse to be treat like second rate employees and are willing to fight back with the unequivocal backing of their union, they can win.

The cost of energy will be at the forefront of peoples minds with another eyewatering price cap increase of 13% by @ofgem announced this week.
UFWE have campaigned for the renationalisation of energy for years in places like Glasgow, Workington & Doncaster, which has fallen on completely deaf ears by @Ed_Miliband and the @UKLabour government.
Nothing screams get renationalisation done louder than this article from @UswitchUK highlighting the regional energy post code lottery.
Who knew?!
How does your energy costs compare?
