The NIC increase to be announced today is, apparently, going to be charged on pensions but still not on investment income. So, low paid pensioners will be asked to pay whilst the wealthy will still not contribute a penny extra to social care. Inequality will grow, yet again.
The justification for today's announcement of class warfare from Sunak is that keeping the national debt under control requires it. But given that he gets the national debt wrong - because more than £800 billion of it is government-owned - that's a completely false claim
The government has borrowed £26 billion less this financial year than it forecast in March. So what is the £10 billion NIC increase all about? https://t.co/9g8PA8cN2r
The Tories sold a social care con-trick yesterday that will do almost nothing to help those in real need https://t.co/XQc513u9rC The Tory plan for social care is to make the lowest paid pay more and the wealthiest pay less for a service that will get no better.
Yesterday’s tax plans were all about capturing tax revenues for private gain to the wealthy at cost to working people https://t.co/pODPYkbxLm There was nothing progressive or socially motivated about yesterday's Tory tax plan - it was all about helping the rich
Graduates earning over £27,295 a year will now have a marginal tax rate of 42.25 percent once student loan repayments are taken into account. That’s almost exactly the same as an older person earning £90,000 a year. So much for progressive taxation.
Instead of making offenders wear high viz jackets in chain gangs, how about helping them get a real job instead? In my shops we employ lots of ex offenders and they wear a shirt and tie. Same people, different approach, a much better outcome.

'With absolutely all due respect to the many brilliant companies in London & beyond who are gallantly trying to get back to business, The Ballad of Corona V - The Remix is as exciting & cutting-edge as anything you are likely to see this year.'
@NanaBon1975 Really enjoyed that! Thank you ☺️ Interesting, inspiring and made systemic social work feel accessible and achievable. Mind buzzing with how our team could switch some things up to be more systemic 🤓 Is there anywhere I can read / listen to more info about IRO/ SW bit?
I've been lucky enough to see some incredible theatre since venues reopened over the last few weeks.
This one made my heart burst. It is a stellar performance about the last year by some passionate and incredibly talented young people.
Go see it!
The Ballad of Corona V @BigHouseTheatre is a roller coaster of a ride, touching many issues beyond Covid with performers giving their all. So pleased to have caught it.
