Legit NES graphics
Finally finished the stage tileset for the mountain village. The way this would look came to me in my dreams - colours, structures, textures, all. For project "Borscht".

Video games of the 20th century featured pixelated graphics. But why was that exactly?
I think it's important for future generations to know why pixel art was once a necessity. I wrote about it for How-To Geek:

Do you enjoy indie pixel-art games today?
Instead of selling on ebay I am now selling on my own wesbsite. https://t.co/PUrGnY23Lh
Just stuff from my own personal collection and maybe some previously reviewed items. More stuff and categories to be added over time. All gaming related stuff! Check it out it is appreciated!
The very first sample come in today. the transparent shell for SNES. It looks nice :)
anyone wants it? I was told that MOQ is 500 units for this. :( i guess it won’t be a easy task this time.

On a second thought, using the SA-1 chip it's perfectly possible to port the remaining arcade stages from Gradius III that ended up not included on the SNES version. Without slowdown.
Sorgelig told me yesterday how to enable fast loading via DDR in #MiSTerFPGA. Quite easy.
The FPGA BIOS and ARM firmware Sorgelig made is behind the platform rapid growth.
Missing such BIOS/firmware is one big reason why other FPGA platforms have not flourished.
Legit NES graphics.
I just expanded this "project borscht" scene. The original half of it consumed all 256 background tiles so I was slightly worried it wouldn't scale well, but it seems to work. The left half is all recycled from the same 8x8 tiles.

If anyone on Twitter got a spare #32x I’d appreciate the donation (I’ll cover the shipping cost). Working on Doom port is getting complicated without the actual hardware at hand. Thanks! #sega32x#megadrive#retrogamer@AshEvans81
There are many great MiSTer contributors who all deserve your patreon support but even though he's not on Twitter or Discord, please don't forget this project wouldn't exist without the endless work of of Sorg/Alexey. https://t.co/ifs1lCRPqn
Added FastROM to Race Drivin
Hold your hype: the frame rate improvement was only of 1.35%
The likely reason is the speed up not being enough to finish a frame earlier and making a whole frame end up eaten awaiting for V-Blank, which is a "normal" thing for most games.
Reveal time. Since April 2020, i've been working as Lead animator for a 10-people startup: @SomethinNerdy
SNS is creating a special NES cartridge mapper called MXM-0, which will exceed what most thought was the "NES limits."

Race Drivin':
- was intentionally coded to not run at more than 12 FPS
- average performance is 2-8 FPS
- always updates the WHOLE screen, including the status bar (completely static)
- doesn't use any of the CPU multiplication or division. It relies on software (40x slower)
I intend tweeting this max 1 time quarterly:
I've got a patreon; where i lift the veil on NES game design, assets making & programming. It's more detailed than what i tweet, & more frequent than my blog. I post at least bi-monthly, usually a bit more.

@SegaSnatchers@HackerVilela@WalrusFPGA You know, if someone sent me a SA-1 chip, I could do the port. I still have the source code to the SNES version of Out of This World.
