When you build a rapid transit line but prohibit dense development around its stations, you’re mandating that the transit line’s benefits be wasted.
Important new bill in California would confront this problem directly.
@arlvabikelanes@Belfast_Bomber@GraysonOrsini I believe the 2 path through downtown was Boush, City Hall Ave, St Pauls. Granby was too narrow in spots and there was consideration for bus lanes on a portion of Boush.
@arlvabikelanes@Belfast_Bomber@GraysonOrsini We did a redesign study just on the Norfolk network in 2020-21. Short-term plan, with better downtown circulation: https://t.co/alE4aARyap Long-term recommendations: https://t.co/Ex9p2SoH8i Implementation never happened for a variety of reasons, including operator shortages.
Looking forward to connecting with colleagues across the industry this week, even with all the snow in the forecast. Let's catch up if you'll be at #TRBAM 2025.
Excited the full details of the MARTA NextGen Bus Network launched this week.

Next virtual meeting is Dec 17 at noon.
Atlanta! The proposed MARTA bus network redesign, which we've been working on for years, is finally published and ready for your comments! Please comment before February 2025. https://t.co/yyFaev5ldi
@HowEPhil@humantransit We show a higher, combined frequency when we are planning for integrated schedules and frequency can be consistent. That's intentional with the 21/22 route design. It's not possible to guarantee that the overlap of the 73 and 165 would be a consistent frequency.
Excited to see the release of the @MARTAtransit NextGen Bus Network. Our team has led the concepts and policy conversation and were central to the network service planning. Looking forward to getting public feedback so we can make this network even better.
MARTA is advancing its NextGen Bus Network, a strategic redesign of MARTA bus routes to create a smarter, faster, and better system to serve the evolving needs of the region. Beginning in December, and continuing through early February 2025, MARTA will host a series of virtual and in-person meetings to gather feedback about the proposed bus network changes.

@yfreemark @wmata Curious about the geographic definition of the region in 1968 that was projected to be 4.2 million. The MSA population may be 50% more than 4.2 million, but I'm betting the past projections didn't include far off southern exurbs.
Lots of good thoughts in the route numbering review for the new @wmata bus network. Definitely agree that clockwise numbering seems simpler and clearer.
What if we changed @wmata bus route numbers in #DC to help people form an easy mental map 🗺️ of the system—without needing to re-learn every route from scratch?
Follow along to see how to fix DC’s @Metrobusinfo bus numbers while minimizing confusion! 🧵🚌
“The @GRTCPulse is a huge success story that doesn’t get told about our city very much, and I think people in Richmond often don’t believe that we deserve or are capable of good things. The Pulse is a huge sign that that’s just not true.” 🚌 @charmatherly

Teaching our two day intensive course in public transit network design for @VTA in San Jose today. VTA invited staff from member cities and adjacent agencies. A fun sandbox for learning how network planning works.
