We need their cooperation on returns, borders, intelligence and migration. “Not our problem” can very easily become our problem through damaged international relations.

I don’t think proximity alone should determine which countries carry responsibility for refugees; international protection requires burden-sharing. And “no right to be here” is what the asylum process establishes.
