Yes, Chennai needs additional airport capacity — no denying that.

But saying “Parandur is cancelled, therefore Chennai is going backwards and infrastructure is finished” is an unnecessary exaggeration.

For years, successive governments discussed airport expansion and eventually chose Parandur despite serious concerns around land, water bodies and local communities. A new government has every right to review that decision and look for a better alternative.

The real question for the TVK government should be: What is Plan B, where will the new airport be, and how quickly can it be delivered?

That's where Chennai Updates and others should keep the pressure.

Cancelling one location doesn't mean cancelling Chennai's growth. If the government fails to deliver an alternative, then criticise them. Until then, let's debate facts, not declare Tamil Nadu “backwards” every time a previous government's project is reviewed. @UpdatesChennai @TVKVijayHQ

A journalist should know the difference between constitutional authority and divine authority.

A Chief Minister is elected to govern, make administrative decisions and act through established procedures. Nobody said he is God.

By all means ask when the files will be opened and demand transparency — that's journalism. But “Do it now, you're not God” sounds more like personal outrage than a serious question.

Question power strongly. Just keep the same standard for everyone who holds it.

Calling yourself a journalist and reducing a maternity-benefit policy to “make more babies” and “no standing space” is disappointing.

Question the policy, its cost, eligibility and impact — absolutely. But mocking families and childbirth adds nothing to the debate.

Journalism should inform people, not cheapen the discussion.

@KasthuriShankar The point is to change the system from the top. If MLAs are properly supported, especially first-time MLAs, there should be fewer excuses for corruption filtering down to ordinary people.

Tamil news channels have been losing public credibility for a long time now. Yesterday’s Nerpada Pesu on @PttvNewsX was yet another example. The way anchor Vijayan and other panelists repeatedly hounded @Ahmedshabbir20 and @aperumalmani simply for putting forward a different perspective was atrocious.

A debate show turned out into a coordinated pile on. If no space is given for alternate views, why invite them in the first place?

A time has come for a breath of fresh air in Tamil news media, much like the change Tamil Nadu has witnessed in its political landscape. We desperately need new age news channels that can bring a genuinely balanced perspective.

Watching some debates, it feels like host journalists on Puthiya Thalaimurai and News18 are far more aggressive with the current government than they were with the previous one.

Strong questioning is part of journalism—but it should be consistent, regardless of which party is in power. Equal scrutiny builds credibility. Selective scrutiny only raises questions. @pttv_tweets @News18TamilNadu
