The reading achievement gap between rich and poor students can be attributed to a lack of access to #SummerReading books in lower-income communities, argues Dr. Richard Allington.

Students are more likely to be engaged in learning when: 1) they feel accepted by teachers & peers, 2) learning goals & assessments are clear, 3) work is authentic and they see the relevance, 4) they have some choice, 5) they believe that they can succeed, 6) they are supported.
Healthy teacher habits during the school year...

5) Meditate
6) Make time for yourself
For most teachers, May is the toughest month of the year!
A5 Student led read aloud work is a game changer. Kids can generate a list of the types of thinking they do when they read then plan read alouds of favorite books where they model it and ask peers to try it out. #tcrwp#ruos#wuos
A3 When I started out I was creating all of my anchor charts. Over the years I have shifted to getting kids to create them whenever possible. A great, authentic purpose for interactive writing! (picture?) #tcrwp#ruos#wuos
3 Truths About Leadership:
1. Leadership isn’t about gaining power. It’s about empowering others.
2. Great leaders succeed because they bring out the greatness in others.
3. You don’t have to be great to serve but you have to serve to be a great leader
As the end of the year approaches and emotions are high, let’s encourage one another in a way that allows us to finish strong, heads high, and no regrets! Stay strong, the work this year has impacted students for a lifetime! #educatorlife#fhsd
The end of the school year is the perfect time for reflection. Take stock of what went well and what needs to be adjusted for next year. Jot down possible minilessons that you will need to teach to head off predictable problems from the get-go. #LiteracyTipTuesday#RSDLearns
A3 @LitROCK_forth and I sat down and planned out the next few years and how that could look to ensure that this adoption is successful. It’s a very fluid document but hopefully as we get more into this work it will be refined to meet our needs #LeadingWellSTL
A4 Another focus could be flipping the script from, What does this assessment tell me about my students?, to, What feedback am I getting about my teaching from this assessment? #LeadingWellSTL
