Today, we concluded a three-day conference on the Horn Inter-Elite Dialogue (Jigjiga Forum), held at the amazing new Shabeeley Resort. The conference brought together delegates from Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya, and Ethiopia, including state officials, academicians, and members of civil society, to discuss the future of the Horn of Africa and the importance of regional cooperation and dialogue. On the final day, we visited several development projects in Jigjiga, where we received detailed briefings on the progress made across different sectors in the Somali Regional State.
The leadership team led by President Mustafa truly stands as a strong example of the critical role leadership plays in nation-building, development, stability, and transforming society. What we have seen and heard in the Somali Region was beyond our expectation and imagination. I personally experienced a realization of the narrative in my book, Somalia: A State in Search of Exceptional Leadership. As such, I presented a copy of the book to this leadership team. I can proudly say that the initial step of such leadership is here in Jigjiga, transforming Somali society.
The inaugural meeting of the Jigjiga Forum, an annual platform for leaders, scholars, and policy experts from the Horn of Africa to discuss peace, governance, development, and regional integration in the Horn of Africa, opened today at the Shabelley Resort, near Jigjiga.
My profound thanks to the leaders and scholars who attended the conference, taking time from their busy schedules.
I hope that the discussions at the forum will yield ideas that will inform national and regional policies and strategies aimed at addressing conflict-related challenges, climate vulnerabilities, and cross-border interactions.
The longstanding dogma that cross-border affinities that do not conform to the logic of political constructs are a threat to the cohesion and continuity of national states should be replaced by pragmatic acceptance of these organic relationships as an opportunity for regional economic integration and social stability.

We ask allah to grant jannah, to tge victims who lost their lives in this horrific attack.
- Mustafa has been more than clear about his vision for Somali Region and for Ethiopia. He stated that there is no contradiction between the people of Somali Region’s ethnicity and nationality (citizenship) from the first days he assumed the responsibility of leading the Somali Region in August 2018. He stated that he believes in federalism but rejects the hateful and divisive politics that TPLF used as a strategy to cling to power.
Great read !

In a nutshell, the Somali region is a national model now. In terms of human rights, the region has substantially improved the bad situation before the political change. There is no public discontent in Somali now. The public can ask, demand anything and hold the government accountable. Regarding the political space, ONLF was the leading opposition party in our region. There are some five regional parties including ONLF. Including national parties, there are 12 parties running in the Somali region for the upcoming election. With ONLF, we have resolved disagreements and geopolitical discontents peacefully. Hence, there is no conflict or instability in the region.

Giving Criminal and bloodthirsty Abdi Iley, @abdiOumeri. a platform for the purpose of viewers is a disgrace. This thug have killed thousands of innocent Somali men, women and children. He is also responsible for the killings and displacement of hundreds of Oromo people and engineered the attack against none Somalis in Jijiga on August 4th. 2018. Any effort to whitewash his past is not only shame but pure evilness. @AbiyAhmedAli@TemesgenTiru@oromiavoices49
