Noted inequality economist Gary Stevenson, whose best selling book The Trading Game beautifully chronicles his triumph and then his disintegration as a trader for Citibank, came by the studio to discuss his ideas for taxing the super wealthy, growing financial and social polarisation, Elon Musk, growing up Mormon in Ilford, clashing with Rory Stewart, clashing with Piers Morgan, clashing with various other people in his new Channel 4 documentary and what in his view the future holds for society. This episode was recorded late July, before Gary’s announcement about possibly stepping back from his YouTube show, though viewers/listeners should get a sense of some of the frustrations that led him to the decision. Magnum has worked with many celebrity ambassadors, including A-listers like @Charli_xcx and Bella Hadid.
Both have used their platforms to bring attention to issues they care about, but now their images are helping sell a brand that has silenced Ben & Jerry’s for trying to do the same thing.
Here’s how you can help: Flood their social comments with #BoycottMagnum and #freebenandjerrys
We are asking these influential celebrities to use their massive platforms to ask Magnum one simple question: Why are you destroying an ice cream company for having a conscience?
My wife, our children, and I are immensely heartbroken to learn that Chris Affleck has passed away.
Chris was far more than a friend. She was like a mother to me and Maram, and a grandmother to our two, and later three, children during the time we lived in Cambridge between 2019 and 2020. She took our kids to the Children’s Museum, accompanied Maram to the Cambridge Public Library as she learned English, and made sure we never felt alone.
Thousands of miles away from our families, when Maram gave birth to Mostafa in May 2020, Chris brought us meals, comfort, and the kind of love only family gives.
Many people know Chris as the mother of Ben and Casey Affleck. What many, perhaps most, do not know is that she was also one of the most steadfast advocates for Palestine. During the Covid pandemic, she stopped by to see us with a “Free Gaza” poster displayed on her car.
Whenever I returned to Cambridge or Boston to give a reading or speak, Chris was there. She always greeted us with tears, warm encouragement, and thoughtful gifts for our children.
The last time we saw each other was after my reading at Harvard in February 2025.
In May 2023, I gave Chris a necklace and a ring embroidered by my sister-in-law, who remains in Gaza today. Chris was overjoyed and immediately put them on.
We will miss you dearly, Chris. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your unwavering solidarity.
May you rest in peace.
Free Gaza. Free Palestine.
I have to be honest about this: I have never expected in my entire life to hear an American politician or mayor speak this bluntly & vociferously against Israel.
While I hope he uses every power in other related aspects, I'd love to thank him for this sincere, powerful message.
I just don’t agree with this sentiment. @NYCMayor@ZohranKMamdani made an excellent statement, unprecedented in US politics. It sets a standard for other politicians worldwide. Yes it’s worth celebrating and at the same time we must always keep pushing him and others for more.
Mamdani, ever conscious of his role as a leader and in legitimizing the broader democratic socialist movement, is setting the standard for 2028 Democratic presidential candidates by flatly declaring that the federal government has the authority to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani just did something his critics swore a socialist would never do: cut fines, fees, permits, and red tape for small businesses.
More than 50 reforms will make it easier for restaurants, bodegas, barbershops, retailers, and drivers to operate—including killing the absurd second permit restaurants need just to serve ice cream.
Less bureaucracy. Lower costs. More time running the business.
That is what competent government looks like.
They own over 100 brands. They know how to manage all of them except one,” he said. “All of their other brands have no social mission. They have no heart. They have no soul, and you know that’s fine. They know how to manage those brands.”
Cohen argued that Magnum could use proceeds from a sale to invest in other brands that do not have the same governance requirements as Ben & Jerry’s. “There’s not this existential conflict,” he said. “Either Ben and Jerry’s gets sold or Ben and Jerry’s as we know it dies. #freebenandjerrys
It’s time to make your own ice cream bars at home! Let me show you how to make a Ben & Jerry’s bar at home! They’re delicious and will satisfy your cravings for an ice cream bar, all while you boycott Magnum. #freebenandjerrys
Protestors in Maine are now surrounding Susan Collins’ office after ICE murdered a 26-year-old Colombian man who was authorized to work in the US and had a social security number. Collins voted to give ICE $70 billion.
This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days.
ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
Genuinely hilarious that anyone thinks you’d have to go out of your way to encounter settler terrorists in the occupied West Bank. You people have no fucking clue what’s going on over here. None
Israeli settlers, brandishing American made M4s, detained me & other Americans on my trip to Palestine.
When the IDF arrived, they sided with the settlers & continued our detention.
They made a huge mistake.
