This novella is based on my published Korean space opera SF novel "Echoes: The Resonance of Consciousness (에코스: 의식의 잔향)."

While Echoes focuses on building a much larger universe, "Losing Sehee (세희의 시간은 멈춰 있었다)" tells a more personal and emotional story by looking at that universe through the perspective of one character.

However, you do not need to read Echoes to enjoy Losing Sehee. It is written as an independent novella.

From the beginning, I wrote this story with Korean learners in mind. I intentionally used intermediate-level Korean expressions so readers can enjoy a story while naturally experiencing the Korean language.

Beta readers will receive:

For Korean learners, I hope this becomes a unique reading experience.
By comparing the Korean original with the English and Japanese versions, you can explore how Korean emotions, expressions, and nuances move between languages.

What expressions can be translated directly

What meanings change when moving into another language

How the same emotions are expressed differently across cultures

However, you do not need to be learning Korean to enjoy this story.
If you prefer reading in English or Japanese, you can simply experience Losing Sehee as an independent science fiction novella in your own language.
My hope is that this project offers two different experiences:

A deeper exploration of Korean language, emotions, and cultural nuances.

🚀 For SF readers:
A chance to discover and enjoy a Korean science fiction story before its official international release.

For beta readers, I would especially appreciate your feedback:

• Does the English/Japanese translation feel natural to native speakers?
• Are there expressions or emotions that are difficult to translate?
• Does the translated version preserve the feeling of the Korean original?

『Echoes: 意識の残響』を書くときは、本当に頭を悩ませた。

最初から大きな世界を作りたかった。でも、設定だけが大きい物語にはしたくなかった。「本当にどこかに存在している宇宙かもしれない」と感じてもらえるような世界を目指した。

まだ多くの方に読んでいただいたわけではないけれど、ときどき「世界そのものに没入感がある」と言っていただける。

その言葉を聞くたびに、少なくともその目標だけは少し達成できたのかなと思う。

そして、その同じ世界を別の視点から描いた作品が『세희의 시간은 멈춰 있었다.（セヒの時間は止まっていた。）』。

こちらはもっと気軽に読めるように、できるだけやさしく書いた。

現在、日本語版も翻訳を進めている。

『에코스: 의식의 잔향』을 쓸 때는 정말 머리가 많이 아팠다.

처음부터 거대한 세계를 만들고 싶었다. 그렇다고 허무맹랑한 설정만 쌓고 싶지는 않았다. ’정말 이런 우주가 어딘가에 존재할지도 모른다.’는 느낌을 주는 세계를 만들고 싶었다.

아직 많은 분들의 이야기를 들어본 건 아니지만, 종종 “세계 자체에 몰입감이 있다.“는 말을 해주신다.

그 말을 들을 때마다 적어도 그 목표 하나는 의도대로 간 것 같아서 기분이 좋다.

現在翻訳作業をしている『セヒの時間は止まっていた』の中では、まだ明確には描いていませんが、私は時々、私たちが生きているこの世界も、無限に繰り返される数多くの宇宙の一つなのではないかと思います。

いつか人類は消えてしまうのかもしれません。
あるいは、宇宙という長い時間の流れの中では、それも自然な過程なのかもしれません。
そしてその後には、人類とは異なる新しい生命や文明が、宇宙のどこかで生まれるのかもしれません。

その時、今ここに存在している私たちの意識は、どこかに残るのでしょうか。

「私」という存在は、肉体なのでしょうか。
記憶なのでしょうか。
それとも、それとはまた別の何かなのでしょうか。

私はそんな問いを、SFを通して考えています。

지금 번역 작업 중인 『세희의 시간은 멈춰 있었다』 안에서는 아직 명확하게 다루지는 않았지만, 저는 가끔 우리가 살고 있는 이 세계가 끝없이 반복되는 수많은 우주들 중 하나가 아닐까 생각합니다.

언젠가 인류는 사라질지도 모릅니다. 아니, 어쩌면 우주의 긴 시간 속에서는 그것이 자연스러운 과정일지도 모르겠습니다.

그리고 그 이후에는 인류와는 다른 새로운 생명과 문명이 우주의 어딘가에서 태어날지도 모릅니다.

그렇다면 그때, 지금 이곳에 존재하는 우리의 의식은 어딘가에 남아 있을까요?

'나'라는 존재는 육체일까요.
기억일까요.
아니면 그보다 더 다른 무언가일까요.
저는 그런 질문들을 SF를 통해 생각해보고 있습니다.
