What is wrong with the #metpolice?

"The imperial boomerang didn’t only birth the general institutional form of the police. Perhaps the Met’s most notorious section, the explicitly political Special Branch...

Checked my emails, one from Sir Keir asking me to vote Labour in May for the NHS, when only a couple of days ago, his deputy @AngelaRayner rejected the 2019 manifesto pledge of a 5% pay rise because it was something to do with @jeremycorbyn. Utterly, utterly dismal from @UKLabour
When the common people were "proper" peasants they were mystical ... with timeless, graceful, "natural" culture.
Dragooned into modern factory system and dumped into sink estates they then become threatening boorish thugs, gullible to mass media and incapable of culture.
[Tories have] already taken us past the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths—more deaths per capita than any other country in the world—....And it has done this at greater economic cost than almost anywhere else too – national income fell 9.9 percent in 2020. https://t.co/SbjipRQiwt
Folks, I haven't drank since New Years, but tonight I sank a few cannaí Guinness over Skype in the company of a hero and the GREATEST financial whistleblower this country has ever known: @WhistleIRL
Even many on "The Left" turned their back on him.
Follow him, support him ✊🏻
Another great stone rolls into the sea ... great East Galway accordionist Joe Burke dies at 81. A magnificent musician and one of the greatest raconteurs on the planet. Joe could talk for the World, never mind Ireland! A lovely guy.
“[The Unionist] government was practising what unionists had long argued regarding the advantages of British citizenship – that UK rights and privileges would apply equitably to all.” Proven to be nonsense by some of us who actually research this period! https://t.co/6ORnNHYLrQ

Solidarity with Palestinians is very simple. Support their rights under international law: to an end to occupation, to equality within Israel, to return to the homes from which they were systematically driven. It's an all-or-nothing scenario. Pick your side.
So @Keir_Starmer speech
- help businesses not tenants in debt
- "affordable" homes not council houses
- "strong partnerships" with business not unions
- "recovery bonds" to enrich the wealthy
- no extra tax on billionaire profiteers
Capitalist aspirations not socialist policies
What I can't understand is this:
It's a global crisis - why isn't every manufacturer producing the most effective vaccine, selling at cost + reasonable profit, with the richest nations subsidising the poorest, so this can be ended worldwide?
#COVID19 would be history.
Is Ireland being short changed on vaccine delivery? Below data from ECDC today.
Every country should have same number per 100 pop.
@FergalBowers @DonnellyStephen
Anyone throw light on this?
Yay best present ever! Vacuum-wrapped Kierans’ Drogheda Breakfast Sausage - nothing like it on the face of the earth! Brings you straight back to your Granny’s kitchen. I’m off now to write a 14 volume novel!
The Dublin Region Homeless Executive is looking to roll out more homeless hostels in the city, but councillors and a TD are concerned about the way it's going about it: by seeking private landlords, and without following the normal procurement process

Great to see the wonderful Maurice Bradley getting recognition- lyrical, elegant music of equal virtuosity on a whole range of the instruments of Irish Traditional Music.
Peter Beinart explains in the New York Times how US economic sanctions are actually a brutal form of warfare like medieval sieges, targeting civilians. https://t.co/4KAFc3KySc
