To prepare for human flight animals were sent to space. The US used monkeys & chimpanzees. The USSR used dogs, famously 'Laika' in 1957. Far less known: the Soviets sent up 41 dogs. 22 died. One ran away just before launch. She was replaced by a stray wandering by the canteen.

@theJeremyVine If the reporting is correct, the cyclist should sue the police for negligence and direliction of duty. The driver should get 10 years behind bars. Yes, police budgets have been decimated but this is so blatant and so easy to prosecute. Unbelievable.
