@BelTel Seamus of course argued against rushing for a BP with disastrous outcomes. A positive BP outcome needs to be built for, the SDLP are doing their bit. If it were 50% + 1 then that is democracy but it would be better if the middle ground that is often referred to, were on board.
@irish_news There is surely scope for a British Irish Party to advance Ulster's cause in a New Ireland. To focus on a case for federalism identifying cultural uniqueness and economic deprivation as key features to begin with. Such a party could be active now and long before any BP.
@BaronoftheMaine Visionary unionists should really be forming a British Irish party to further Ulster Unionist identity in a New Ireland scenario, pushing federalism and ensuring that the investment comes North. The old union will be a dead horse really as the century progresses.
@MatthewOToole2@IrishTimes Just read this. What a breath of fresh air. Reconnecting absolutely a key word for the future. It would be so welcome to see real structures and mechanisms in place to augment Shared Ireland and begin that walk.
@dmcbfs@irish_news I wonder what answer you would get if you were to ask its membership. Then again that goes for any party really. However the common glue for SF members is an end to partition in the near future. But how important is that really to Southern members and voters?
@MichaelPTKelly Perhaps a majority in the Sth do not see partition as a problem or even a big issue. Some I imagine want little to do with the North, probably seeing it as a basket case. The Centre Left field is also now packed with options. Its going to be hard for SF to always win.
@dmcbfs@columeastwood@niassembly@StormontSources Yes, another great podcast. Great also to hear from Colum Eastwood on a range of matters. Exciting times ahead for the Commission and the 25 June conference is a must for all those who want to see a New Ireland.
@SaraGirvin Queen Victoria of course enjoyed watching Irish dancing. In 1849 after observing Irish jig dancing on her recent trip to Cork and Belfast wrote 'Quite different from the Scots reel, not so animated...' Charles following in the family footsteps here perhaps. Wonder what he thinks?
