Originally there was no offside and the game was terrible, so it was introduced and tinkered with ever since.

@land_browns Not even close to the same thing. If you eliminated offsides then (using your comparison) it would open the door to a WR just standing downfield, never returning to the line of scrimmage. No one wants that one lazy ass clown from every pick up bball game cherry picking goals.

Now if you want to compare soccers offsides to old 2 line pass rule that hockey got rid of then I'm with you. They should make offsides more concrete like hockey by adding a other line to each half of the field. Beat the ball past this line you're offsides

But if that accidental play is a red card under the rules, then the rules are crap. Losing a game and a half in the knockout rounds for an accidental step is insane.
