Oh look, yet another Colorado election where I receive both my son’s ballots. Problem is they haven’t lived with me for more than 5 years. Additionally, my oldest son has lived in a different country for the past 4 years. “Gold standard “ “safe and secure “ we are told. If election security is this incorrect for me how much fraud is in the larger system.
Mandating us to wake an hour early all of winter in cold darkness would not create “an extra hour of daylight”! Restore permanent Standard Time instead.
The DST vs ST question is pretty simple.
Permanent DST people value their post-work leisure at the expense of everything else.
Permanent ST people value circadian rhythm, sleep health, and the safety of schoolchildren on the morning commute.
The latter is wholesome and reasonable, whereas the former strikes me as nothing more than a form of self-interested nihilism.
Reminder that John Hickenlooper(D) was part owner of a restaurant which hired an illegal immigrant who went on to murder a Denver police officer and then flee to Mexico.
That’s how pro-illegal immigrant criminal Hickenlooper(D).
🚨 RUBIO JUST SAID THE NUMBER THEY NEVER WANTED ON TV 🚨
Americans work 40 years.
They retire.
Social Security: $800. $900. A thousand a month.
Somebody who got here from Cuba three months ago: $1,500 a month.
Marco Rubio said it out loud.
“So imagine if you’ve been working here for 40 years and your Social Security check is smaller than the benefits going to a 28-year-old, able-bodied person who just got here. That’s real. That happens. That’s happening every day. That makes no sense.”
You paid in.
They landed.
They beat your check.
That’s not compassion.
That’s a slap in the face with your own tax dollars.
I can’t show up in a Muslim country with a beer, a BLT, tank tops/shorts, preaching the word of GOD, or my dachshunds and call it a normal Sunday.
So spare me the lecture about America changing our customs to make someone else comfortable.
*We drink.
*We eat bacon.
*Women wear what they want.
*Dogs live in the house.
* We worship the one true GOD.
If that offends you, this isn’t your country to redesign. You can self deport.
I keep hearing people complain that gasoline is over $4.00 a gallon.
And yes, I'd love to see it at $2.00 again. But before we declare gasoline the most outrageously expensive liquid on Earth, let's put things in perspective.
For $4.00, I get a GALLON of gasoline. I pour it into a 4,000-pound machine, turn a key, and that gallon will haul me, my wife, the groceries, the golf clubs and half the junk in my trunk almost 30 miles down the highway.
That's actually a pretty impressive day's work for $4.00.
Now let's compare.
A restaurant sells me a 5-ounce glass of wine for $9. That's about $230 a gallon. And how far does it transport me?
Usually from the dinner table to the men's room.
A fancy coffee shop can charge $6 for a 16-ounce latte. That's $48 a gallon. It doesn't transport me 30 miles. It transports me from "Leave me alone" to "Okay, now you may speak."
Bottled water at a convenience store might be $2.50 for 20 ounces. That's $16 a gallon, for something that occasionally falls out of the sky FOR FREE.
A 12-ounce energy drink at $3.50 works out to more than $37 a gallon. Apparently caffeine becomes a precious mineral once you put lightning bolts on the can.
Buy one of those little 2-ounce bottles of "energy shot" for $3. That's $192 a gallon. At that price, it shouldn't give me energy. It should mow my lawn.
Maple syrup at $8 for a 12-ounce bottle? About $85 a gallon. And its principal technological achievement is making pancakes sticky.
Vanilla extract at $6 for two ounces? That's $384 a gallon. For $384, I expect the vanilla bean to come to my house and bake the cookies.
Printer ink can cost thousands of dollars per gallon. And unlike gasoline, it sometimes refuses to come out because the printer has decided cyan is low.
Even that $9 glass of wine deserves another look. At roughly $230 a gallon, filling a typical 15-gallon gas tank with restaurant wine would cost about $3,450.
Of course, after drinking 15 gallons of wine, transportation would no longer be your biggest concern.
So yes, $4.00 gasoline is expensive.
But it's also a remarkable bargain when you think about what you're buying. You're purchasing enough concentrated energy to push several thousand pounds of steel, glass, groceries and humanity nearly 30 miles.
Meanwhile, we'll cheerfully pay $6 for coffee, $9 for wine and $3 for water, then stand at the gas pump staring at the numbers like we're watching the national debt clock.
Maybe gasoline doesn't need better pricing.
Maybe it just needs a fancier name.
"Handcrafted Premium Petroleum, locally pumped, small-batch refined, with subtle notes of octane and dinosaur."
Put it in a 12-ounce artisan bottle and charge $14.
We'll line up around the block.
WOLF CREEK PASS
Southwest Colorado
Drove home yesterday & started seeing the smoke trail in Del Notre, 50-ish mile away.
🪲 We’ve all seen that beetle-kill on that pass & knew the day a fire hits it, would be ‘awesome,’ in the wrong sense of the word.
This picture doesn’t even do it justice…
🌳 The environmental -terrorist who sue the Federal govt NOT to clean the forests, is watching it burn your actual plan?
To the authors of the GORP Act, who want to ban logging…look at what that does to ‘protect our land.’
(Saw this pic, randomly in FB, happy to give credit if anyone knows who).
On September 11, 2001, I was a cadet at West Point.
In the days that followed, one thing became clear: we were no longer simply preparing to serve. We were preparing for war.
For my generation of soldiers, the mission became deeply personal.
We had watched our country attacked. We had witnessed unimaginable evil.
And when America called, thousands of young men and women stepped forward and said:
SEND ME.
That spirit of service has never left me.
🇺🇸 9/11: 25 Years Later — Part II
From Karl Streed -
I BET YOU DIDN'Y KNOW ABOUT THIS: AFTER FLIGHT 77 HIT THE PENTAGON ON 9/11, THE FOLLOWING HAPPENED.
A daycare facility inside the Pentagon had many children, including infants who were in heavy cribs. The daycare supervisor, looking at all the children they needed to evacuate, was in a panic over what they could do.
There were many children, mostly toddlers, as well as the infants who would need to be taken out with the cribs. There was no time to try to bundle them into carriers and strollers.
Just then a young Marine came running into the center and asked what they needed. After hearing what the center director was trying to do, he ran back out into the hallway and disappeared. The director thought, "Well, here we are, on our own."
About 2 minutes later, that Marine returned with 40 other Marines in tow.
Each of them grabbed a crib with a child, and the rest started gathering up toddlers.
The director and her staff then helped them take all the children out of the center and down toward the park near the Potomac .
Once they got about 3/4 of a mile outside the building, the Marines stopped in the park, and then did a fabulous thing - they formed a circle with the cribs, which were quite sturdy and heavy, like the covered wagons in the Old West.
Inside this circle of cribs, they put the toddlers, to keep them from wandering off.
Outside this circle were the 40 Marines, forming a perimeter around the children and waiting for instructions. There they remained until the parents could be notified and come get their children.
The chaplain then said, "I don't think any of us saw nor heard of this on any of the news stories of the day. It was an incredible story of our men there.” There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
The thought of those Marines and what they did and how fast they reacted; could we expect any less from them? It was one of the most touching stories from the Pentagon.
It's the military, not the politicians that ensures our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It's the military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.
If you care to offer the smallest token of recognition and appreciation for the military, please pass this on and pray for our men and women, who have served and are currently serving our country, and honor the memory of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice!
God Bless The USA!
Never forget!!!
@JustineBateman Exactly! We just wanted equal rights and opportunities. What we did with it is our own business, our own choice. As always, the extremist took it to the extreme and ruined it. We take back the meaning of feminism in the way we as individuals live and relate to others.
Thank you, @SenTomCotton, for opposing permanent Daylight Saving Time! Let’s amend the Sunshine Protection Act to permanent Standard Time! https://t.co/xRXieG0tdZ
When Dolly Parton approached Robert Plant for permission to record her version of “Stairway to Heaven,” she reportedly worried about how he would react. Instead, Plant’s response was wonderfully simple: “Of course you can, you’re Dolly Parton.”
And somehow, that feels like the perfect answer. Dolly didn’t try to copy Led Zeppelin — she took one of rock’s most iconic songs and made it unmistakably her own, adding a touch of country, gospel, and her unmistakable voice.
Sometimes, a legend recognizing another legend is all the permission you need.
Senate @leaderjohnthune is right to resist permanent Daylight Saving Time. Standard Time is closer to the honest sun time, it should be made permanent again!
