Walking across Lower Sproul (Berkeley) in 1999 and seeing a friend fretting - it was raining and the band he'd arranged to play a free set couldn't. I invited them to come play in my co-op's dining room since it was between meal times and that's how I saw my first Rilo Kiley show
More love and gratitude for &Juliet closing on the West End. Especially to my supervisor Lydia Hardiman who righted the ship many many times and brought coolness and calmness to the room. To all the players then and now who inspired with their personal s… https://t.co/Pgc3IwE8n4
A most happy closing to &Juliet West End tonight with some of my first inspiration photos (flowers in NY!) and early stages. Thank you to all my collaborators who brought me on and helped grow the show with me over these years. And thank you to this trai… https://t.co/H5n6eFDNU2
+ you have to pay for breakdown if you want that vintage patina! Option 3) I search resellers, find something that matches the measurements I need and spend 15 minutes buying. Arrives in 1 week tops, maybe requires minor alts, but that reseller saved the show so much $! /Fin
Another perspective on the thrift store reseller discourse: as a costume designer, I am SO grateful for vintage resellers. Say I want that late 90s burgundy leather trench for a show. I could send an assistant out shopping local thrift (picked over and $$$ in nyc) 1/
The variety of “you must be rich” replies I invariably get when talking about clothes are funny, because it’s like…no, I also do not have hundreds of dollars to spend on clothing. The difference is I don’t see that as a human rights crisis.
They may spend several days looking and may or may not find it. At best, that coat has cost over $600 in shopping labor. At worst, we spent that money and got nothing. Option 2: we build from scratch! The shops are backed up and materials plus labor will cost at least $4000 2/
When Jason in Jason and the Argonauts (1963) tells his crew not to take anything but water and food from the island the goddess Hera directed him to, he gave clear instructions. But clear instructions isn’t enough, to be a good supervisor you need to give context as well.
My best advice on relationships:
When you think something nice about someone, let them know.
It's a shame we often wait until a person's funeral to say all of the nice things we thought about them.
The next time you have a positive thought about someone—tell them right then.
As the only member of my extended household (husband, nanny, her 3 kids) who got the flu shot (a month ago), can say being sick for one day miles better than out for a week. Get your flu shot asap.
The U.S. is officially in a flu epidemic, federal health officials say. They’re preparing to deploy troops and ventilators if necessary https://t.co/7H7h2cYSTZ
