the next pope will be chosen based on a single criteria: the conclave will choose the candidate they believe can best stand up to Trump
can elaborate on this if anyone's interested
this is am big opp. in prediction markets if you can back this reasoning into a candidate
The word "Technology," as a container for thousands of distinct practices, methodologies, business models, and technologies, is absolutely meaningless.

My favorite books r intellectual history, discursive/referential histories/bios, regardless of topic, books you can read through but also dip into like idiosyncratically-sampled libraries. Books like Menand's *The Free World*, Waldrop's *The Dream Machine*, etc. Will list these.
Thomas Pankeham's 2 histories on Africa, one on the Scramble and the other on the Boer war, which have fairly been called "encyclopedic," are favorites. Of course, Caro's LBJ books, Manchester's Churchill books. Sarah Bakewell on Montaigne. Artemis Cooper on Patrick Leigh Fermor.

Rewatching Game of Thrones (after getting into the new series) is such a delight. Awesome one-liners in almost every scene. Deft balance of drama, action, humor.
People still confuse strategy and tactics ALL the time, and TBH I don't always keep them straight in my own mind. This bit in Ricks's book on Iraq War II is good:
