That site and this ownership group has been at it since like 2024 at least. This ainโt connected to the whitecaps sale at all. A long time in the making
Gary Mason on where the baseball stadium would go:
"One of the sources said the site that the bid group has zeroed in on is an almost nine-hectare (20 acres) plot of city-owned land on the south shore of False Creek, just east of the Cambie Bridge"
Thereโs been efforts for years that I know about, far more tangible than some random mayoral hopium. But unless we get mlb approval, a clean site and some actual sugar daddies, it ainโt gonna happen
For MLB to work in Vancouver, it needs a billionaire owner with deep pockets, and a new ballpark.
If someone's willing to do that, then it makes a lot of sense.
Seems notable that the city press release says there is "interest from prospective groups."
