Calling TLJ “not real Star Wars” because it dared to challenge heroes and explore failure isn’t just gatekeeping, it’s missing the point George Lucas made for decades.
Movies for kids can still be for adults too.
My guess is if you hate The Last Jedi, you would have hated The Empire Strikes Back too (if social media had been around to tell you how you were supposed to react to it).
@MarienneMaid I saw it, only because of my 10yo son. To sell toys they marketed it as a fun, standalone adventure. It was overly long, scarily dark and excessively violent, with a sprinkle of Grogu moments thrown in. So many jump-scares my son held me by the end. Disney Star Wars is lost.
It'd been so long I had chills for most of the runtime, especially everything with Luke, Rey and Ben. Mark and Carrie's best performances.
Great sounding dialogue, epic shot composition. Waiting to get a SW with this caliber of a combo between technical craft and story again
Luke did the most Jedi thing ever. He confronted his nephew without violence. Apologized for hurting him and allowed Ben to take out his anger on him without actually harming anyone, including Leia. He saved Ben Solo’s soul that day, even if he said that’s not why he was there.
Oscar Isaac reveals that the “somehow Palpatine returned” scene in THE RISE OF SKYWALKER’ was filmed during reshoots.
“That was a new addition right at the end… hey man I committed to the exasperation that’s for sure.”

@JonHandyDandy To say “if it was going to happen it would have happened” is crazy considering the leadership has changed! Bob Iger seemed to have an issue with the character.
About Time (2013) was a sleeper hit, grossing over $87M worldwide on a modest budget. Its financial success was driven by its massive popularity in South Korea, where it became one of the highest-grossing foreign rom-coms in history.
Adam Driver's #StarWars movie "The Hunt for Ben Solo" was reportedly axed by Bob Iger and other Disney execs. Can the movie be revived now that Disney has a new CEO?
"Nope," says director Steven Soderbergh. "As soon as it became apparent, ‘OK, not gonna happen,’ I sat down and started writing [something else]. It’s like, ‘OK, new scenario, let’s get cracking.’ At a certain point, it’s like complaining about the weather. You just gotta keep moving… Look, if it was gonna happen, it would have happened. It’s that simple."
"I don’t regret one minute of the time we spent working on that. I felt the work was good. It’s just good for you to be in that room and working on it. It’s like CrossFit—it’s good for you. It’ll have a residual effect that will be unexpected at some point." (via The Playlist)

Adam Driver was the person who initially came up with the idea for THE HUNT BEN SOLO, says Steven Soderbergh.
“It was strictly Adam saying, ‘I think there’s still somewhere to go with this character.’ That’s how it started.”
