We are on ULP strike. We gave @nytimes management months of notice of our strike deadline, we made ourselves available around the clock, but the company has decided that our members aren’t worth enough to agree to a fair contract and stop committing unfair labor practices.
We are here to remind the execs at @nytimes that Election Day coverage doesn't work without us. Stop the stalling, come to the table and bargain so we can get this deal done and avoid a crisis.
BARGAIN NOW: Yesterday we sent a letter to @NYTimes publisher AG Sulzberger @AGSNYT with a simple request: Bargain NOW to avoid this strike. Read more here.
We have authorized a strike at @nytimes, and we need your support to help us win a strong contract with fair and equitable pay, serious job security, and that protects hybrid and remote work! https://t.co/61mzpa404g
The disrespect has reached a new low (literally with these numbers)
NYT execs better come to their senses and bargain like their products rely on it — since we are the ones who make and maintain them and we’ve authorized a strike!
This week the @nytimes gave us their first wages counterproposal. Here are a few highlights:
- A “guaranteed” raise each year of 1%
- A 2% raise for promotions
- A pay floor $16,000 lower than our lowest paid member’s current salary
- No increase in compensation at ratification
By a vote of 524-28, 95% of our members have just authorized a strike. As we head into the final weeks of this Election season, and on this important Debate day, we want the @nytimes to hear us: We are ready to do whatever it takes to get to a fair deal.
We are celebrating Labor Day by announcing that a supermajority of our over-600 person union signed a pledge of support for a strike. We have scheduled a strike authorization vote 🗳️ 🪧
As we head toward #LaborDay, we’re celebrating the incredible work of our members that powers @nytimes. We reminded management about our value in Slack recently, which prompted the bosses to have some "non-disciplinary" conversations with us.
Yesterday dozens of teams at NYT participated in a stress to prepare for the election. Tech Guild members across all aspects of election readiness celebrated this work and reminded management — with more than one post per minute — that it's the workers who make our systems run!
Our union turns 1 year old tomorrow! Happy birthday to us!!! 🥳🎂🎈
Here's a little bit about what we've been up to! This morning, we delivered petition to management signed by hundreds of workers fighting for Just Cause ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏻✊🏿✊🏼✊ Solidarity forever ~

Today’s @nytimes earnings report is a testament to the great work of our members — work done without a contract for nearly two years. How much longer will the company prioritize its investors over of its employees?
My sister is the most talented, hardest working person I know. Because of UW’s greed, she & other community members are at risk of being displaced. Please help save their homes by attending the rally if you’re in the Seattle area or signing this petition: https://t.co/PiF7FgJUjp
Did you know? My university-owned housing is on track to get privatized, meaning low quality & high rent housing that leaves students and families displaced. If you’re in the Seattle area, turn out next week to save my home! https://t.co/m73BICeOLj
We’re asking readers to not engage in any @nytimes platforms tomorrow and stand with us on the digital picket line! Read local news. Listen to public radio. Make something from a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak.
If @NYTimesGuild members don't have a deal soon, we’re asking readers to not engage in any @nytimes platforms tomorrow and stand with us on the digital picket line! Read local news. Listen to public radio. Pull out a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak.
Today we were ready to work for as long as it took to reach a fair deal, but management walked away from the table with five hours to go. It’s official: @NYTimesGuild members are walking out for 24 hours on Thursday. We know what we’re worth.
