This video, I still can’t get enough of it because it points out many things.
Mediocrity is now the order of the day because,

1. An interviewer who didn’t even do a research to observe that there’s a difference between Afrobeat and Afrobeats.

2. Tekno a producer who could have corrected him on the spot but proceed to use that opportunity to speak sum that’s burning inside him for years. You already said with your own mouth that Oliver de Coque did Highlife, you then proceeded to overwrite a universally accepted fact that Fela created a distinct genre claiming it borrowed from pre-existing sounds 😂😂 Oh guess how new genres of music are usually made, they are usually built on pre-existing sounds till they sound distinct. Which makes his statement very false as hell.

3. Let’s assume you are correct, the Oliver de Coque you mentioned even came a decade after Fela, so on what ground did Oliver de Coque influence Fela’s sound for you to say he didn’t create the Afrobeat genre? By your logic, James Brown didn’t create Funk because it borrowed off pre-existing genres like jazz, R&B etc such a funny take. 😂

4. Yoruba people alone did not crown Fela the creator of Afrobeat, Fela indeed create Afrobeat a distinct genre, his works are evident enough, what tools he used don’t mean shit in the end when it eventually becomes distinct, you a producer of all people ought to know how it works.
