Official Response to Lagos Reporters: Reiterating Zero Tolerance for Illegal Okada Operations in Oshodi-Isolo

The attention of the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government has been drawn to the recent report by Lagos Reporters regarding the surge in alleged criminal activities, accidents, and insecurity linked to the illegal return of commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders) within our jurisdiction.

We wish to state, unequivocally, that this Local Government has maintained a zero-tolerance stance on Okada operations. While Oshodi-Isolo Local Government remains fundamentally secure and functional, we are nonetheless concerned by the community feedback as reported by Lagos Reporters and we are actively monitoring official crime data and public health center records to ascertain the full extent of the report.

Upholding Legal Mandate and Prior Enforcement

It is paramount for the public to recall that on the 16th of November 2025, the Executive Chairman, Otunba Kehinde Adeola Oloyede (Almaroof), officially declared a comprehensive and permanent ban on all Okada operations across Oshodi-Isolo Local Government. This decisive action was necessitated by credible intelligence concerning the criminal syndication of illegal levy collection, which was enabling unauthorized and lawless conduct among certain operators.

Following this directive, the Local Government, led by the proactive Chairman Otunba Kehinde Adeola Oloyede Almaroof (Kendoo), immediately constituted and deployed a dedicated, fully-empowered Taskforce Enforcement Team. We successfully executed the initial clearance and fully discharged our responsibility by implementing and enforcing measures designed to protect the lives and property of our residents, as witnessed and widely reported by media outlets, including TVC News.

The current resurgence of Okada activities constitutes a direct and flagrant contravention of the subsisting State-wide policy and the specific directive issued by this Local Government.

Call for Reinforced Multi-Agency Intervention

The ongoing challenge now transcends mere municipal enforcement. The organized defiance and criminal exploitation accompanying these illegal operations underscore the urgent necessity for a reinforced, multi-agency response leveraging the full powers of the State.

Accordingly, the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government hereby formally calls upon the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit), and the Lagos State Government at large to intensify and consolidate their partnership with the Local Government.

A unified and aggressive joint operation is critically essential to:

* Completely and permanently eradicate the unlawful operation of Okada within our jurisdiction.
* Dismantle the criminal networks responsible for collecting illegal levies and enabling this lawlessness.
* Restore absolute public confidence in the government's capacity to enforce the law.

We assure the residents of Oshodi-Isolo that the Local Government remains unyielding in its commitment to peace, law, and order. We urge residents to continue using official channels to report all criminal incidents. We will continue to deploy all resources within our mandate while actively collaborating with relevant State security and enforcement agencies to guarantee the safety and security of all residents.
