@kanyewest, i love your music. you are one of my favorite artists of this generation and i am inspired by your music. but what you are doing is degrading to the community of people that are around you. please reconsider that not every person is evil. love.
These works, by Hank Willis Thomas, both describe summer to me. The first work reminded me of how I used to always play basketball during the summer and watch Dwade and Lebron when they were on the Heat. The second photo reminds me of what summer feels like. #arth287artoninsta
These two artworks, by Devan Shimoyama, represent what spring break was like for me. A relaxing time away from doing college work and worrying about my career. Just enjoying everything I have around me and doing what I like to do. #ARTH287ArtonInsta
Meta Fuller's sculpture of Mary Turner is an inspiring piece as it commemorates Mary Turner as not just a victim to a racial crime, but also her own independent person. Fuller did portray some stripping of individuality, but says that the lynchers couldn't take away her. #ARTH287
"RAISE UP" by Hank Thomas depicts how black people are drowning in the cement because of the stereotype that black people are aggressive, hostile, and guilty of crimes whether or not they actually committed the crime. #arth287artoninsta
@eliaskim1748 I think the first painting shows great depiction of the pain that this black man is going through and shows that even though he is black, he is still human and feels pain. The second painting shows rebellion against the norms whites were trying to place on blacks at the time.
@DoeViewer I think this is a great depiction of how Devon challenges the stereotypes by reversing the stereotypes set in "Ethnic Notions" and depicting the fact that these types of people are defined by the color of their skin but their character.
These 2 works by Devan Shimoyama challenge the stereotypes brought up in "Ethnic Notions" by stating that both black and white people are equal beings. A black person can be just as smart and hard working as any other white person. #arth287artoninsta
Alison Saar's piece entitled "Torch Song" is a powerful piece. A Torch Song is a type of love song where one person sings to someone who doesn't acknowledge them. The black people of America have sung out to a flame which only ignores and burns them. #ARTH287ArtonInsta
Carrie Mae Weemsโ complete series of artworks, From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried, is a compelling piece which depicted how black people have been portrayed, treated, and caste away from society. However, somehow, the black people of America still came together. #arth287
This piece by Adam Pendleton titled "We are Not" just speaks to me on so many levels. On the surface it seems like a simply form of graffiti art in black and white, but this seems to be deceptively simple. I can't describe it, but it is amazing. #ARTH287Artoninsta
@BisterB3000 Although we have been a free nation, there is still hints of racism and injustice as a result of legislature or entities like the zoning laws.
Uncivil the Deed's shows that even after the civil war, not only were the people of America reluctant to give a place to the black community but even the US government failed to provide any kind of start for those who suffered from the past. #arth287
@LostMoonMercury It's crazy that the US government did not even keep their own promise of 40 acres to the black community and looked away as white landowners would try to take the land away from black landowners.
@mcferrin_ella@Jekeinism I really like this painting as I think it depicts that not everyone is what the stereotypes of a certain race is. That everyone has different pieces of their life that make them who they are and the different colors are portrayed on us.
@arthistory20231 I think this piece resembles the roots of this country as it was built by mostly slaves as well as the importance to never forget where you came from and how much you have grown. #arth287artoninsta
@syclarkart's "These days, this history, this country" I believe this shows that America carries the same pain of the past- the pain that has torn the countries for centuries. So we all must heal the pain of the past and reweave America with new thread. #arth287artoninsta
